Dynamic Illusion - Massive EP incl. Greenage, Pacco & Rudy B [Suffused Music, SMD218]

The latest from Suffused Music finds the label revisiting Dynamic Illusion’s ‘Massive’ for a new set of remixes. Originally released in November of 2017 as part of the ‘Run Away’ EP it found the Hungarian artist at his creative best. The track’s chunky groove and ethereal elements resonated wonderfully on the dance floor and quickly found a place in hearts of progressive music lovers all around the globe. Now almost two and halfs years on Suffused Music invites Greenage and Pacco & Rudy B to reinvent the track for 2018.

The first interpretation is provided by Greenage who is making his debut on the label. The Indian artist has found a great space in the progressive landscape with key releases on Juicebox Music and Balkan Connection. His ‘Massive’ interpretation is about as pure as the resurrected genre can get. It’s warm, fluid groove and wispy vocal motifs are incredibly charming. Add to that a vibrant percussion section and expansive sonic tapestries for what results in a magical, free flowing creation to be enjoyed several times over.

The second and final interpretation of ‘Massive’ is provided by Pacco & Rudy B who are returning to the label for their fourth appearance. The Croatian duo have been hot this year with the launch of their Mallam imprint along with quality work for A Must Have and Dopamine Music. Always creative remixers, they take ‘Massive’ into their own world of dreamy progressive house. Backed by a warm, sultry groove it’s free flowing appeal is hard to resist. Reprocessed, the vocals sound fabulous, dreamy and ethereal as they fade off in trails of sonic dust, before a luminous set of tones carries the piece to an exhilarating conclusion. Two excellent interpretations from two of the most on form artists of the moment. An excellent remix edition for Suffused Music once again which heads into the summer season on roll.

Malaysian progressive prodigy Arzuk returns to the label once again with another stunning selection of new productions, this time with 2 different originals that easily will blow your minds. 

First out is a wicked wonder, named as “Methodology Of Life”. Through this production, you will get the full on doze of deep and melodic textures, that easily will hypnotize you from start to finish. Clever melodic structures, groovy bass lines and everything in between will definitely guide you through a journey. 

A new name on our roster was to take on the challenge as Sri Lanka strikes again with another phenomenal producer, this time we see Dilee D make his first steps on the label with his remarkable rework. With a slightly more rough take on the original idea, he punish with an amazing dark bass line, evolving melodies and a dirty feel put on. We are extremely happy to see him debut with us and what a wicked treat he is giving us, super stuff all the way. 

Next up is another original from the true master Arzuk as we hear “Triumph Amongst Humans” complement on the release. This is another full on melodic stomper, where e see the creativity from Arzuk shine through once again. It has that great atmosphere that he so often builds up through his music, and keeping the deep and groovy feel on it. Dan Baber, the Aussie native, returns to PHW Elements again, as he shines with his quirky way of making his superb music. He is going all in from start to finish here, with a magic number built through deep creations, moody elements and that driving textures he always stands for. In Dan Baber we see a truly innovative producer that most definitely works his music straight from the heart. It’s pure class all the way!

Cut Snake - Desire (Original Mix)

A DJ across his native Greece and a decade long production career sees Dio S now debut on Particles with "Alas". Since early vinyl releases, over 250 track credits have been amassed on some of the finest digital imprints as Sick Watona, Stripped and Movement have played host to his music. An appearance with Kosmas on the third instalment of the all-conquering Sol Selectas "Summer Sol" compilation series in June 2018 is another notable career highlight.

The title track is a melodic house offering that revels in a shaker-fuelled organic groove as textured pads flow in gently pulsating waves and clave percussion highlights keenly felt. A delicate melodic interlude provides further evidence of impressive production skills that filter into the final movement in a work of genuine craft. "Lydia" continues the laid back melodic vibe of its predecessor as a hypnotic shaker captures the attention with its club-friendly pattern. Building beautifully a melody arises out of the rhythm section with a strong piano motif, redolent in reverse reverb. A subterranean bass line adds additional sonic flavour as rhythms and counterpoint motifs converge in the second half with passion and technique.

Working from a foundation where "every sound has its own soul", Kynan Cosma has carved out a niche sound with his "deep melodic, underground beats". A nascent production career has subsequently brought success with a clutch of underground house tracks that have gained in momentum since March 2016's "The Void" on Deep Therapy. Further work has subsequently seen Cosma appear on Moodmusic and Deep House Belgium, with the latter accounting for the five-track "The Path" in October 2017 and "Extraterrestrial" going on to feature on the best-selling "Visceral compilation series. Now debuting on Particles, the Kynan Cosma remix of "Alas" takes the track on a wonderfully curated voyage that bristles with new melodic content and a host of new production material. Using the central chord progressions and motifs of the Dio S original, Kynan's skill is to extend them into new and emotive directions backed by a wonderful bassline and rhythmic backbone that explodes into the third movement.

Greek based artist, Savvas, has been immersed in electronic music since the early 1990s. A regular across clubs and parties of his adopted homeland, the Savvas production career has seen over 200 credits sitting proudly against his name for such blue-chip imprints as Ready Mix, Motek Music and Anjunadeep. Still retaining the same passion for his music and a desire to experiment with his sonic palette, Savvas returns to Particles after wonderful remix of Michael A's "Bright Hope" in August 2017. Using a strong beat and clicking woodblock groove as a foundation, melodic elements of the original make their presence felt before a host of new production material takes "Alas" in a new direction with glistening bell-like motif that revels in reverb and hypnotic pattern. Counterpoint melodies rise and fall in bewitching refrains as reversed phrases add depth and intrigue to an intelligent and dynamic new interpretation.

Recently coaxed out of a long production hiatus (the result: a standout remix of The Midnight's "Synthetic"), friend and long-standing label muse Alex "Mango" Golovanov continues to reinforce his legacy in the niche of melodic progressive house, courtesy of a brand new collaboration with Norwegian producer, singer, and songwriter Astroleaf. 

Mango & Astroleaf's triumphant new single, "We Tried," not unlike Astroleaf's recent "Open Your Heart" release on our label, features a heartfelt performance that reflects the singer's lament about a relationship beyond repair. Yet, the central lyrical motif — "they should all know we tried" — suggests that the singer has made peace and brought closure, a more optimistic sentiment that Mango's characteristically hopeful chords help to bring to the surface. As the song progresses, the emotional resonance of the composition steadily builds, culminating with a gorgeous new lead synth. The chemistry between Mango and Astroleaf is truly awe-inspiring and offers a portal back in time to the vintage melodic progressive house sound of the late aughts.

Who better to offer a summer-flavored, uptempo interpretation of a melodically rich progressive cut than Talamanca, the Dutch maestro behind so many (beloved) Balearic progressive anthems over the past five years? Following last year's globally acclaimed "Arrivals & Departures" debut artist album, Talamanca remains in peak form here, as he offers his fans another euphoric, summer-kissed classic. The trance-influenced chord progression, which proves rapturous from start to finish, has the effect of "buoying" the vocals from sinking into melancholia. In the song's thrilling climax, the listener is inundated with waves of melodic bliss. 

It's rare to encounter a singer-songwriter who is equally adept at production, but Astroleaf proves himself a versatile, exceedingly skilled composer via a ‘chillout' take of his own. A gentle drum roll carries the rhythm, while delicate background synths offer a a soothing soundscape, upon which his vocal and memorable lyrics take center stage. A patient crescendo ultimately reveals an emotionally incisive final act, in which the the synths come to the for of the arrangement, accompanied by Astroleaf's gorgeous backing vocals.
