A redoubtable talent with a vast array of music to his name, Andre Sobota returns to Proton Music with another twin-track original EP, "Under the Radar".

An artist always at the top of his production game, Andre Sobota consistently dines at underground music's top table. With the rare ability to appeal to a wide audience with his distinctive rolling grooves and immaculate melodic phrasing, the Brazilian has lit up the industry with a portfolio that is second to none. From remixing Coldplay and Rihanna for behemoth EMI to a magisterial collection of music for the likes of Anjunadeep, Perfecto, Zerothree and microCastle, Sobota has continued to inspire a host of up-and-coming producers with his immaculate attention to detail, hard work and craftsmanship that translates into almost 600 production credits.

Accounting for more than 50 of those credits over a decade, Andre Sobota has been a regular on Proton Music since a debut remixing Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union in November 2009. A month later, the ground-breaking three-track "Outside" EP appeared to critical acclaim and remixes from Ryan Davis, Kassey Voorn and Shingo Nakamura followed. A reworked version of that iconic debut EP appeared in 2014 with the aptly titled "5 Years Outside", while "Fragments", "Concluded", "Unmute" and "Alter Ego" have all gone on to showcase the outstanding production values that represent the Andre Sobota approach to sound design and musical narrative.

Now returning to Proton Music, "Never Ending" is a beautifully arranged track that bristles with muted pads and chest-thumping kick before a growling bassline groove erupts into an exquisite sonic space. A trademark offbeat rolling percussion adds subtle dancefloor flavour while a shimmering, delayed and freeform melody coruscates gently across proceedings, enveloping the listener in rich and warm harmonics. Building imperceptibly into the second half with extended melodic interplay, the result is another triumph.

The title track opens with a whip-cracking kick as a delayed arpeggio and warm pad rises gently in open-filtered fashion. Ticking hi-hats and clicking clave add percussive intricacy, while a subtle bass cadence locked to the rhythmic groove extends "Under the Radar". Hitting the breakdown with a stripped back arpeggio phrasing that swims across the left-right spectrum, the track enters its second half with a continuation of the gloriously smooth melodic flow that showcases Sobota's sound design abilities. By making sublime use of a sonic palette that blends effortlessly in tones, the Sao Paolo resident paints another memorable picture across eight-and-a-half minutes of sonic joy.

An artist with a long association with Particles, Espen now returns to the label with his "Late Night Snack". Two original tracks are partnered with remixes from Finland and the USA.

A career that spans over 15 years, Espen Gulbrandsen has consistently found himself at the upper echelons on the electronic dance movement with support from the likes of Armin Van Buuren and Solarstone. Using his Espen moniker from 2007 brought similar success on likes of Silk Music, Stellar Fountain and Lost Language. July 2019's "Until Tomorrow" marked an impressive original EP on Particles following on from remixes for Omar El Gamal and Rick Pier O'Neil and Desaturate. Re-emerging for the label some eighteen months later, "Schuko" is a wonderfully crafted affair that reveals itself delicately through smooth off-beat percussion, filtered arpeggio and reverb-laden vocal breaths. A rolling bassline adds depth while white-noise effects and spot effects swirl across the stereo spectrum. A chorus of pads and evolution of the central phrase alongside counterpoint melodies adds a deft touch. "Late Night Snack" continues the deeply resonating power of its predecessor as muted arp and wave-like pads open up to reveal a delicate melodic structure beneath fizzing hi-hat urgency. Flowing keys ripple across the mid-range with complex ease, changing in structure and sonic architecture as they go. The result is an immaculately crafted affair.

From his home in southern Finland, Ultravizion has struck a chord with a clutch of impressive imprints and his deep house sound. An array of impressive productions has seen the Finn appear on such impressive imprints as The Purr, RYNTH and Pole Folder's Reworck. February 2020's "Yakagir" for Suprematic was also a notable highlight. Making his Particles debut, the Ultravizion remix retains the intricate melodic detail of "Late Night Snack" while a new grooved motif reveals itself with gentle hypnotic phrasing. Glorious pads rooted in Espen's original meander across the stereo range with ease as layers of stratified sound pay tribute to the original while harnessing Ultravizion's impressive production prowess with deep kick and percussive power.

Making a bang with his debut for Glasgow Underground in September 2017 remixing Paolo Mojo, Jayden Klight has continued to carve out a niche with an impressive selection of original material for L'enfant terrible, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Seven Villas. October 2018's "Departure" and 2019's "Contact Six" EPs were prominent high points for the Pablo Bolivar led label. Reworking "Late Night Snack" with typical aplomb, the Jayden Klight remix revels in delicate broken beat rhythm that lends itself perfectly to the new melodic phrasing and rich sonic palette presented by the US star. As impressive as it is inspired, the remix harks back the golden era of progressive breaks in the early 2000s, championed by the likes of Benz and MD and Digital Witchcraft. The result is a mature and impressive offering.

A pair of new tasty tracks plus remixes from Ultravizion and Jayden Klight are a powerful reminder of Espen's talent.

With their first collaborative project Alex O'Rion and Antrim debut on Roger Martinez's Higher States with 'Imagine'. Hailing from the Netherlands and Argentina respectively, Alex and Antrim have found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while finding a home on Sudbeat Music, Hope Recordings and Cid inc's Replug Records. Now presenting their first ever joint productions, Alex and Antrim present a two track artist showcase via Roger Martinez's Higher States.

Alex and Antrim show the fruits of two artistic minds coming together on the title cut 'Imagine'. Fluid and inviting, it's well contoured groove is full of character, shape and warmth; while a band of hip-swinging rhythms put your emotional centres on high. Ghostly fragments add an air of anticipation, perfecting setting up a cascading lead theme which effortlessly weaves it's way in and out of the framework. Lying gently below surface, it's emotive charm is hard to resist, juxtaposed against a storyboard of timely effects, before rising to prominence following an expertly executed break.

The companion piece 'Round Trip' follows a similar sonic ethos but with a dubbier quality overall. In crafting a smooth rolling groove, the cross-continental duo have fashioned another powerful foundation, complemented with hypnotic pulses and percussive drive. Ethereal in design and poignant in delivery, harmonic phrases descend over the framework, carrying the piece into a hopeful second act, before getting washed away in a rush of beats and drums for a pulsating finale. It caps off a hugely successful collaborative project from two of progressive music's most beloved talents, making for another outstanding offering from Roger Martinez's Higher States.
