PPG Wavetable 20 NoFX

Having fun hooking up a 1983 PPG Waveterm A to a Wave 2.2 Digital-Analog hybrid synth from 1982 following upgrades and an overhaul. The Wave was one of the first commercially available wavetable synths offering wavetable sequencing and lead the way to the Waldorf Wave series and the Korg Wavestation. Unlike the later derivatives, the early models definitely had a sound of their own thanks to their 8-bit DACs and SSM2044 filters. The whole thing has a raw yet warm sound about it and can cover a surprising amount of sonic territory. I have long since loved the unique sound of 8-bit digital audio into analog filters!

Arabian Night Flight

My first experiments with the Buchla 266 SOU. 
Simple patch with noise output going to input of 291e (stepping through it's 8 step seq.). Some steps on the 291e seq. have modulation applied. The 266 controls the oscillator's frequency as well as the pan position that the noise goes to on the 227e. The oscillator is going through a Moogerfooger MF-104 delay pedal.

A quick demo of a modified Boss DR110 analogue drum machine synced to a x0xb0x via DIN-sync. There's no mixing other than the output of the DR110 plugged into the 'mix in' of the x0xb0x.. Recorded live in one take. WARNING: THIS DEMO FEATURES KICK DRUM SUB-BASS!

A collage of sounds that were made with the amazing Octave Plateau Voyetra 8. One of the best analog polysynths, IMO. Fortunately, I owned the latest rev. so the synth was trouble-free. It's keyboard (VPK-5) could be a little stiff-feeling at times but the aftertouch and velocity sensitivity of it made it a unique part of playing the Voyetra. Definitely not an easy synth to program. I found it excelled at modulation-type sounds, pads and even bass patches.

JEN SX1000 Demo

250e/259/266/285e

Above are the key modules for this patch which relies heavily on feedback loops. Basically, I have the 250e and the 266 feeding into and back at each other in as many ways as I could think of at the time. I also made use of the really neat "External Inputs" on the 250, feeding the QRV and SRV into one input each. The FRV is controlling the 285e Ring Mod Timbre as well as playing a part in the tempo of the 250e. 
It's really twisted. :)

Uncertain Spinning Drone

This drone was recorded using the PPG Wave 2 and a pair of Oberheim Echoplexes. This basically showcases the character of the original PPG Wave 2, sweeping through its wavetables. Even though it might be a tad limited when it comes to layering sounds, there is nothing quite as brittle, crystal-clear, and at the same time rich and animated-sounding as a Wave 2. Mind you, this is just a snapshot to give you an idea, this is no composed piece of music.

Patch focuses on the interaction between the 266, 281e, and 259. Pendulum Ratchet establishes rhythm and tempo. 

Basic outline for this patch...
The Fluctuating Random Voltages section of the 266 modulates both the attack and decay of the 281e. The 281e in turn modulates the Timbre of the 259. Towards the end of the piece I start modulating the Principal Oscillator with the Modulation Oscillator (by using Phase Lock and FM).
