Foundational to the gospel is the fact that every human is a sinner and is without an excuse before a holy God.

No Excuse (1:18-3:20)

Believers who are reckoned righteous by faith have peace with God and a sure hope of eternal salvation.

A Sure Hope, pt. 1 (5:1-11)

God’s saving love for His people cannot be thwarted by anything, physical or spiritual. Believers in Christ indeed have a secure hope of salvation.

A Sure Hope, pt. 2 (8:31-39)

Because the Lord is gracious, He chooses to save all types of people throughout the earth, all who repent and believe in Christ. God is grafting Gentiles into the tree of salvation, of which ethnic Israel serves as the root.

No Shame (9:30-11:32)

An instrumental prelude, or overture, to the Romans album. This piece contains several thematic and motivic material from later songs.

"Write To Rome"  (A Writing Prelude)

Paul introduces himself to the church at Rome, expressing his eagerness to see them and his mission to proclaim the gospel to all people.

Paul, (1:1-15)

These two verses serve as Paul’s thesis for the rest of the letter: the gospel is the power to save everyone who places faith in Christ.

I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel (1:16-17)

A violin-terlude in preparation for the body of the letter.

Where To Begin...(Violin-terlude 1)

As a wrath-appeasing sacrifice, Jesus died in the place of guilty sinners, thus allowing a perfectly just God to freely forgive the sins of those who place faith in Christ.

He Came To Die (3:21-31)

Paul references Abraham as an Old Testament example of one who was justified by faith – not by works or by the sign of circumcision. 

The Story Of Abraham (4:1-25)

All men are born into sin through their federal head, Adam. Those who are born again through Christ, who is the Second Adam, receive new life.

The Second Adam (5:12-21)

Paul poses some rhetorical questions to show that our new position in Christ should lead not to greater sin but to greater obedience to God.

What Shall We Say, pt. 1 (6:1-23)

Even though believers in Christ, like Paul himself, have been delivered from sin, there is a remaining presence of sin that wages war within us. From this God will also gradually deliver us (a process called sanctification) until we are glorified at death or Christ’s return.

What Shall We Say, pt. 2 (7:1-25)

The Holy Spirit aids in our sanctification, giving us power over sin, death, and slavery to the flesh.

The Spirit Of Life (8:1-17)

While the world is full of suffering, God will one day completely redeem all of creation. Those who have been justified in Christ may look forward to the day they will be glorified.

Glory To Come (8:18-30)

Paul expresses heartbrokenness over the spiritual state of his kinsmen, the Israelites. Despite the fact that God promised them salvation, Israel rejected her Messiah. Paul spends the next couple of chapters explaining that this does not mean that God’s word of promise has failed.

Lamentation (9:1-5)

There are two different categories of “Israel”: those who are merely descendants of Abraham (ethnic Israel) and those who, like Abraham, are children of the promise (true Israel). Paul references God’s election of Isaac over Ishmael and Jacob over Esau to show that His choosing is not based on factors such as works or lineage, but on “Him who calls” (v. 11). 

The Story Of Israel And Her Sovereign (9:6-13)

Because the Lord is sovereign, He is free to save whomever he chooses to save. 

What Shall We Say, pt. 3 (9:14-29)

After a long discourse on God and salvation, this doxology of praise overflows from within Paul. God’s nature and actions, specifically those pertaining to the redemption of mankind, are beyond comprehension and understanding. 

O The Depth! (11:33-36)

In light of all that Paul has written in the previous chapters, he now urges his readers to live their lives in love and obedience, which is their spiritual act of worship.

Lay Down Your Life (12:1-15 13)

An instrumental interlude for the fellowship and "one-another-ing" of the church. 

Koinonia (A "One-Another-Ing" Interlude)

In this closing section, Paul says farewell to specific individuals in Rome, mentioning his desire to see them on his way to Spain. He concludes with a final benediction.

PSALLOS is a team of Christian artists – songsters and singers, ministers and musicians, thinkers and theologians. Led by composer Cody Curtis and in partnership with Union University, Psallos exists to provide the Church with artistic songs of worship that are consistent with God’s word, rich in sound doctrine, and intelligible for the sake of edification. The proclamation of Scripture, particularly the gospel of Jesus Christ, is at the core of its mission. The group was founded in 2012 by Cody and Melody Curtis.
