This November we will be releasing their latest EP (produced by Pulp's Steve Mackey) stateside, featuring the sloppy, sludgy, searing single “No” with MASSIVE guitars, cantankerous drums, and a defiant, vox maelstrom. It’s gonna gnarl through your speakers and bludgeon you with pure nihilism fuzz. Following “No” on the A-side is “Alas Salvation” a song so chewed up and spit out it could pass for The Upholsterers covering DNA. The B-side ditches the bulk of the grit and instead keeps things icy, mellow, and lonely with “Out on a Limb.” It’s a stately and necessary respite till you flip the wax and strap back in for the A-side. PLUS noted artist and photographer Nick Waplington has copiously tackled the cover art. It’s beautiful and violent use of color are a welcome and complimentary addition to this package.

So sit tight and take hold. Yak is poised to make noise and it’s in your best interest to get on board early and maybe JUST MAYBE you could be the coolest kid at school.

Sergei Korolev, or “The Chief Designer” as he was referred to at the time, was the talismanic figure spearheading the Russian Space programme and the lead designer of Sputnik. His untimely death in 1966 had a huge impact on the outcome of the Soviet battle with the United States to be the first nation to land a man on the Moon. 

The band have a major UK tour planned for November, starting out in Edinburgh which has already sold out and taking culminating in the biggest date of their career with a Brixton Academy headline show on Sunday 29 November.

Granted unique access to propaganda films from WWII-era Britain by the BFI and setting them to new music, Public Service Broadcasting unveil 'The War Room EP'. Expect breathtaking visuals, atmospheric synths, pounding drums, Krautrock guitars and poignant piano as J. Willgoose, Esq and his drumming companion Wrigglesworth teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future...

The lead track from the EP is named 'Spitfire' - an adaptation of the 1942 propaganda film 'The First of the Few', telling the story of the origins of the talismanic fighter. The track is a driving, Krautrock-influenced tune and the video stars Hollywood legends David Niven & Leslie Howard.

Howard was viewed by Josef Goebbels as the most dangerous British propagandist of the era and his own life was to end in tragedy when the passenger plane he was travelling on in 1943 was shot down by the Luftwaffe over the Bay of Biscay.

'The War Room EP' is dedicated to J. Willgoose, Esq.'s great-uncle, George Willgoose, who died at the Battle of Dunkirk in May 1940 aged 26. The final track of the EP, 'Waltz for George', is a sombre close to affairs, featuring the banjolele owned and played by George Willgoose which has remained in the family.

After the success of The War Room, PSB are moving ever upwards - this time setting their sights on the summit of Everest.

The song is based on the 1953 film 'The Conquest of Everest', which told the story of Hillary, Tensing et al's successful ascent of the tallest mountain in the world, and which was directed by expedition member George Lowe.
