Contact is the new duo of A.E. Paterra (aka Majeure) of famed sci-fi synth-rock group Zombi, and acclaimed British film composer, Paul Lawler. Exploring a similar orbit as Majeure and Zombi, multi-instrumentalist Lawler infuses heavy doses of melody and drama to give First Contact a sound and feel that blends late 70s Pink Floyd sprawl, the nostalgic wonder of early 80s science documentaries, and John Carpenter’s 80s sci-fi action films. Equal parts fascinating and euphoric, Contact is two masters of their respective crafts finding common ground in zero gravity.

SIN COS TAN is the band of ace producer Jori Hulkkonen and VILLA NAH’s Juho Paalosmaa. Having worked together previously on VILLA NAH’s superb debut album ‘Origin’ and on the track ‘Re: Last Year’ from Hulkkonen’s own ‘Man From Earth’ solo record, a further artistic union was almost inevitable. They made their live debut at Helsinki’s Flow Festival this summer 2012.

The superbly pulsating ‘Trust’ showcases the pair’s manifesto to be “a synthesized duo of great promise, broken dreams, and long nights”. Add in sweeping drifts, sharp widescreen cimbalom, danceable but subtle beats and emotive vocals tinged with sadness from Paalosmaa, what more could you want? ‘Trust’ could possibly be the song of 2012…

So while VILLA NAH take a sabbatical and Hulkkonen wears yet another hat (other  monikers have included ZYNTHERIUS, ACID SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, KEBACID, DRUMMAN, STOP MODERNISTS and THE TANIA & JORI CONTINENTS!), SIN COS TAN is now the big hit!

Sin Cos Tan: Trust (single)

I've always been a massive fan of Boards of Canada, if its not obvious already!  10-11 years ago I stumbled upon a bootleg recording of one of their extremely rare live performances at the Warp 10 Birthday party in 1999.  The closing tune at this show has always remained a mystery to me.  As far as I know it has no title and has never been released.  It's quite possibly one of my favorite things they have done and really is a shame it never came out. Fast forward to Summer 2012...  Since I am a huge nerd I decided to take this bootleg recording and re-produce it for fun.  Using the recording I laid new drums over the existing drum patterns (almost 100% accurate to original), replayed some synth parts and the bassline.  The only thing I didn't try to re-create was the original vocoder parts and some random samples so I used the bootleg recording for that.  I was tempted to make a shorter 4-5 minute version but I figured I should preserve the piece in its intended length (although the length was most likely due to it being a live jam).

Downloads limited to 100 (sorry I still haven't upgraded my account).  I do not claim rights to the original nor do I intend to ever sell this.  Not sure if I'm violating anything or not with Soundcloud so grab it quick!

After not releasing any new music for awhile and under-going a new name change, I figured I would throw together a little remix for you guys to let you know that there's still a ton of work going on behind the scenes. This one has a more gritty style then some of my previous tracks, but I tried to keep that same funky feel that you get from the original tune.
