Look, up in the sky! Is it italo? Dark disco? EBM? Synthwave? Electro? Trance? Nope, it's #ItaloTrance! 

As far as I know, #ItaloTrance is not an actual genre name, although I've recently seen some artists/labels using #ItaloTrance tag to promote their releases. But, in a world where the boundaries between various electronic music genres are becoming less clear every year, where there's a "new" electronic music genre every couple of years or less (apparently, the progressive trance sound that I used to love and play in the clubs back in the day, is now being labeled as "melodic techno"?), I think that #ItaloTrance is something that we deserve and need. 

This is the sound I've been really into for the last couple of years, probably because it represents a strange combination of my two greatest loves: trance & '80s synthesizer music. Even if not an actual genre name (yet!), #ItaloTrance is definitely a feeling!

Vendetta Sintetica - Eroi di Mezzanotte

After a long time, I was really in the mood for playing some trance to my friends and, without particular tracklist in mind, I ended up doing a set featuring some of my favorite 90s and early 00s trance classics - from progressive, hard trance and classic trance sound to several goa and psytrance gems, including couple of newer trance productions. When it comes to music, trance was always my first and biggest love and sometimes it feels strange listening to these classic trance gems of the past today, when the definition of "trance music" has moved so much away from its 90s roots, so this feels like the music for the lost generation, kind of.
I'm not happy with couple of transitions, but I've really enjoyed this nostalgic trip (which gave me an excuse to use my old trance alter ego again) and I thought some of you might enjoy this too, while it could also have an educational impact on some younger trance fans out there :)

Pashton Kutcher - Finding Ganesha

This mix premiered live on Youtube on April 16th 2020, just a month after the COVID-19 lockdown was introduced in my country.
COVID-19 isolation was a strange period for everyone, which probably also reflected on this mix. Thinking about it now, it was definitely one of my "weirder" mixes - it's 2.5 hours long, features various different flavors of synthwave and it has this, as I like to call it, "mountain-like structure", starting slowly with some dreamwave stuff, and then gradually speeds up through some italowave, classic synthwave and outrun tracks, going up to 140+ BPM, when it starts to slowly dial back the BPM, all the way to some chillwave/balearic/ambient vibes in the end. It's long and nerdy and definitely isn't for everyone, but it got pretty good feedback back in the day and it's an interesting showcase of various sides of synthwave, especially today, when this genre moved a lot from its roots. 
P.S. I apologize for the minor technical glitches, so if you catch any of those, just pretend that the cassette tape is chewed up on that spot :)

Pash Bridges - Quest for the Holy Synth

Nope, it is not a typo, this mix is actually 20 years old.
If you ask most people of our generation, who love electronic music, what is the best period of clubbing in Montenegro, they will most likely tell you - Fuka Đusla. This very small club (literally translated, Fuka Đusla = sweet coffee) in the heart of the capital city, was the main (and only?) gathering place for clubbers and electronic music lovers back then, in the period 2004-2006. Back then, my friend Janko (DJ Bee) and me, together with our friend Aleksandar (DJ Sasha), were doing psytrance parties as Pitch 'n' Destroy, first trance DJ organization in Montenegro, and we had a lot of successful parties at this club. Some may still remember our (in)famous "Happy Trance Year" party series, which started at this very club, on January 13th 2005. What everyone definitely remembers is that it was a completely different time, without smartphones, social networks or virtual celebrities, but with much more love and true passion for music.
This mix is ​​part of the Tranceport 01 party, held on October 14th 2004, and although the sound is of lower quality (it was recorded on some strange minidisc, with 80 minutes limit, from which it was ripped, and I don't have a clue how), and although some of these tracks certainly haven't aged well (at that time we were quite focused on the Israeli full on sound), it definitely has high sentimental value and serves as a reminder of some distant, but by no means forgotten times. And those Pioneer CDJ-100s are actually still alive and working :)

Pash Bridges - Hidden Planet

The oldest mixes that I've managed to dig from my vaults are two short promo mixes made by my dear old friend and colleague Janko Raščanin a.k.a. DJ Bee @jadzarush. Both of them were recorded on January 4th 2004, on our old trusted equipment: Pioneer CDJ-100s players and Gemini PS-626i mixer. They were recorded directly on audio cassette tape and then ripped to wav/mp3 (insert "technologia!" meme here). Therefore, the sound quality is not the best and there are several technical 'glitches' here and there, which in my opinion, only add to the sentimental value of these mixes :)
Our trance organization "Pitch 'n' Destroy" was barely 2 years young and we were full of energy and enthusiasm for sharing the music we loved so much; ordering trance CDs from the local "dealers" and spending hours on the slowest dial-up internet to download new tracks, waking up early in the morning to put up party posters and hand out party flyers to random passersby (who usually looked at us suspiciously) and playing music on all kinds of local venues for ridiculous/no fees. Some of that energy can also be felt in these mixes (especially the "Aggressive Mix") and the trance sound that was popular back then, speaking of which, I can definitely say that most of these tracks aged really well, at least in my book. Our trance organization "Pitch 'n' Destroy" was barely 2 years young and we were full of energy and enthusiasm for sharing the music we loved so much; ordering trance CDs from the local "dealers" and spending hours on the slowest dial-up internet to download new tracks, waking up early in the morning to put up party posters and hand out party flyers to random passersby (who usually looked at us suspiciously) and playing music on all kinds of local venues for ridiculous/no fees. Some of that energy can also be felt in these mixes (especially the "Aggressive Mix") and the trance sound that was popular back then, speaking of which, I can definitely say that most of these tracks aged really well, at least in my book.
