""In the middle of the night, lightened by the bright moon, the thief tries to steal the rare Selenium mineral; but the alarm goes off! The chase is on."

This is my first track for PSG Cabal, and honestly I'm really happy with how it turned out!
The song, made in Famitracker (and using the VRC6 module), is my first attempt at composing a "chiptune rhapsody", and it's directly inspired by the chemical element n. 34, Selenium. For example, the theme and focus of the song is the Moon, which is associated with Selenium's name; while the use of a 7/4 time signature comes from adding up the digits of Selenium's atomic number, 3 + 4.

I had a ton of fun composing this, I hope you'll have fun listening to it too! Thanks to y'all and PSG Cabal for the opportunity. <3"

"Hi! I'm so happy to participate in this event, I can't express it fully here, in words. This tune wasn't in writing for very long, but I managed to develop a connection and a bit of headcanon while I was working on it :)
In brief, this song represents the feelings of the researchers who have discovered nobelium for the first time, sampling it over and over again, but not getting a sample that would not decay in a few seconds (hence the quite frequently occuring melodies in the tune). One day, they finally managed to make a target sample (signified by the key change), making the tune more like a celebration, rather than a grind. And after nobelium was put into the periodic table.. everyone moved on (slow removal of instruments in the tune). There's always new elements to discover and research. There's always no time for talking when there's science left to do."

I ran across the following tidbit while reading about ytterbium on Wikipedia:
"Finely dispersed ytterbium readily oxidizes in air and under oxygen. Mixtures of powdered ytterbium with polytetrafluoroethylene or hexachloroethane burn with a luminous emerald-green flame."
I was really inspired by the idea of such a brilliant reaction, and more generally wanted to convey the volatility of a rare-earth metal in my song. So I themed it around a fireworks festival and filled it with glitches and noise! The "firework" DPCM samples were from field recordings I made of thunder in the distance."

"So I had never heard of antimony before, and upon googling I learned that it rarely occurs in a pure form naturally, and among the places it does in the world, the first one it mentioned ended up so happening to be 10 miles from my house! A place called "Antimony Peak".

Upon learning this, I shared with my gf, and she said "let's go climb it!". Wondering if that was even possible, I turned to google again, and discovered there was a hiking trail to the peak! And so off we went, for "research".

It ended up being one of the most difficult hikes of my life, but super worth it. I began hearing parts of this track whilst climbing the mountain with the namesake of the very element it was to represent. Pretty neat."

"Silver was a fun element to work with, because it's a very culturally charged one ! My first reflex was to try to evoke a feeling of "shininess", and apparently I was pretty spot on since the latin word for silver, "argentum" was derived from a word meaning "white, shiny".

"When I think of nitrogen, the first thing that springs to mind is its role as an essential nutrient for all forms of plant life. In the US fertilizer is sold with an N(nitrogen) P(phosphorous) K(Potassium) rating expressed as numbers relative to the content of each element. IE 7-6-4.

Nitrogen is extracted from many sources globally and used in greater quantities than any other form of fertilizer. This translates into a tune by way of the concept of the life cycle of a plant.
