"For my final entry I figured it would be smart to shake things up stylistically from the electro/dance feelings of the previous numbers.
I attempted to capture the influence of David Wise's Battletoads & Double Dragon soundtrack and modern synthy alt-rock kind of stuff. The title refers to the use of Ytterbium in industrial lasers."

"While writing the song I first began to read about Dysprosium, and tried to create a similar feeling to something that would be magnetic. Throughout the song I watched a video that described the characteristics of the element in its pure form. The end of the song is a concentration of how common the element is used in nowadays tech, but also very rare to find in nature, as it often gets mixed up with other metals. The name of the song is based on the last section of the song before it loops, which is a reference to the bullet hell game "Touhou"."

"The bar structure of the song was determined by amount of electrons per shell in a palladium atom. I subdivided these bars into groups of powers of two for aesthetic reasons. I was originally planning to do something very contrapuntal with the plucky instruments, because the element is very shiny, and plucky countermelodies equal shiny in my mind. I ended up having a section after the first two bars that is entirely homophonous however, because fifths just feel metallic to me. This got boring and I just started reusing motifs in a very jammin' way, creating the next section. I then had 18 more bars to go, which I admit I didn't use in the most creative way, but it serves as an outro."

"I wanted to write something a bit cold sounding, since Manganese is used in stainless steel, so I tried to make the piece sound a bit eerie in places.  Also, the solo at the start sounding weak and broken, and then the finale being a bit more confident mimics Manganese's other use: healing bone ailments."
