Saxophonist Patrick Smith was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Relocating to Toronto in 2013, he has worked in many musical styles from traditional swing, to open form piece, original modern jazz, funk, pop, rock. An active bandleader, Patrick currently leads three of his own groups. Pat Smith Quartet is a modern jazz quartet that plays original music and creative arrangements of other artists’ music, the Pat Smith Standards Trio interprets the classic repertoire of the jazz canon and Shadow Clan is a duo that experiments with open-concept improvisation. His wide skill-set has also led performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, and the Toronto Jazz Festival. For the last two years he has been studying saxophone under esteemed saxophonist Mike Murley. He has performed as an opening act for artists such as Chick Corea, Brian Blade and Seamus Blake and has played and recorded with artists such as jazz legend Dave Liebman, Mike Holober Chelsea Mcbride, Ken Macdonald, Brother Levon, Baseless Trio, The Folk Jazz Project, Art the Band, Carmel Freeman and many more.
