A self-proclaimed 303-addict, LA-native @TheeMikeB turns in this set of raw acid, featuring a collab with Oliver Dollar and remixes by Sage Caswell, Madame and newcomer TRACE7000.

Mike has been involved in underground music since the 90's, a founding member of the legendary Banana Split party with DJ AM and Steve Aoki, Mike has also remixed and produced records with Diplo, Switch, Stretch Armstrong, Sinden, Jesse Rose, Oliver $, Sammy Bananas, Oliver and many more, featured on releases with labels such as Mad Decent, Fool's Gold, Play It Down, Dim Mak and Yoruba.

Lead track Tree House Acid sounds most at home on Turbo, reminiscent of prime Jesper Dahlback. Late At Night featuring Oliver $ is a classic-sounding slice of fat Chicago, while Let Her Back In, takes the narrative into trippier, psycho-loopy territory.

Storming remixes come courtesy of Sage Caswell, who stripped things down to raw techno, new Turbo signing TRACE7000, whose mix is a chunky late-night euro-bomb, and BNR pal Madame who brought in some tough electro power.

Setting the scene, imagine yourself laying down comfortably in a wooden cabin deep in the woods at night time, in profound communion with your fellow listeners and letting the sounds collective carry you inwards 🌚✨
 
I first met Paul two years ago playing at one of my favourite ambient rooms at a small gathering in Scotland, then again last year at Backsteinboot in Berlin where we both played as part of an all night sleepover ambient event Rausch. Both times, I was mesmerised by the composure and depth of Paul’s music and demeanour, two qualities that truly shine through in this sublime mix probing the realms of drone ambient, minimalism, avant-garde and electro-acoustic composition 💫

This hour and a half of slithering drones, liquefied glitches, deep nocturnal soundscapes and ritual sonics is occasionally punctuated by narration. It ebbs and flows between barely audible and fiercely present as it deliberately stretches the scope of listening with its passage. The further in you listen, the deeper in you go 🔮

Run Amok is a composition featuring recordings of an intervention at the location of Werner Herzog’s film Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970) on the volcanic island of Lanzarote. During the early 1970s Herzog shot two of his most radical early films on the island prior to the tourism boom; sections of Fata Morgana and the entirety of Even Dwarfs Started Small, the location of the which remains much the same almost half a century later. Further recordings were made around the island, utilising the materiality of Lanzarote’s alien landscape and used as source material for the resulting work.

Side A is a recording i made of a rehearsal from my live set i had planned to do in support of GAS at the RNCM theatre in Manchester. I got cancelled on the night due to some of Gas’ technical issues so never got to perform.
Side B is a dj mix i made using my own tunes produced in the past year or so.

A pivotal figure in Manchester behind the Meandyou club night and events in Soup Kitchen’s basement, as well as an occasional collaborator with Joy Orbison and his Hinge Finger imprint, Herron here follows his nose into the maziest and murkiest ginnels of his style, practically leaving any semblance of gridlocked house in the rearview to instinctively pursue a more greyscale type of electro-acoustic dub flux.

Working shades away from Madteo’s rudely squashed rhythm ’n noise style, and in similar waters to Porter Ricks and his former collaborator J.S. Zeiter, Herron ekes out a low key but keenly burning hour of off the cuff blatz and gritty noise riddled with traces of iridescent melody and glancing samples that fizz thru the ferric clag.

Most crucially. his rhythms feel unlocked and now flow with a freer viscosity, oozing between knotted dembow and more relaxed, straighter grooves, but also prone to dissolve with an amphibian grasp of dry and wet textures and natural contours, leading to some writhing mutations of posthuman electro in the 2nd half.

No doubt it’s the most impressive release in Herron’s small but well formed catalogue, and a strong look for anyone feeling the like-minded releases on Youth, the label run by his Meandyou. co-founder, Andy Lyster.
