Yes there are unseen forces at work beyond the veil, creating this division, while also attempting to work towards bringing us together.

The essence from how I see these are produced is very much influenced by the health of the environment.

Observe the behaviour, and state of mind of someone who lives in a clean environment vs a dirty environment.

This is why clean air, water, and nature is so important. 

Also why, one of the greatest things we should all be fighting for is the protection of land, animals, and everything that holds together the balance.
