So, I just dropped my kids off to the ex
and drove away empty hearted
to the restaurant in town where my sweetheart works.
I felt bad because I didn't immediately say 'hi' to her when I first walked in the door
because I had to piss so fuckin' bad.
When I emerged from the washroom,
with freshly washed hands,
I worked myself to the empty side of the bar.
Along the way, Gems walked by me without a glance, despite my mediocre attempt to divert her attentions.
'Had I upset her somehow?'
is what I feared to myself as I found my way to the quieter side of the bar.
I guess I hadn't, as she was almost immediately pouring me an OV to place before me to quench my thirst to satisfy my sorrows.
But now I'm falling asleep until tomorrow. 

I played my guitar on her front porch, waiting,
as I watched the moon cross the horizon.
Smoked sativa cigarettes 
as I fucked with this guitar line 
and wrote these words 
that I am reading 
to all of you 
right now.
Everything about her is inspiring.
She's my muse. My Gems. For now. Or forever? 

I sincerely hope I don't push her away
like I've done with everything else in life.
Up to this point.
Everyone can change as I aspire to always do.
For the better.

The surviving medieval priory Lindisfarne is the focus for this track. The priory was re-established in Norman times in 1093 as a Benedictine house and continued until its suppression in 1536 under Henry VIII. The original priory of St Cuthbert's time was long gone by then following the location of the relics of the saint as a result of the Viking scourge.

Inspired by "The Rainbow Arch", the track takes it's name from this surviving rib of the crossing vault that survived when the tower above it collapsed. The photo of this arch was taken on one of my visits to Lindisfarne.

This track is now part of "The Pilgrims Way Project" exploring the history and natural world of Lindisfarne.

Instrumentation

The Rainbow Arch instrumental features strings, violin, flute, a choir backing, synthesizer pad (quite Floyd -like) and uilleann pipes. There was no historical reason to use the pipes as the Irish monks were long gone. It was more to do with the mixture of sounds in this piece. It felt right to my ears. It also features my best approximation of multitracked chanting.

The Bell ringing sound FX is classed as Public Domain and is used to add colour to the track from www.freesound.org

Background

"The bell is rung for mass and the monks assemble. Whilst singing the chant they gaze up at the rainbow arch and their spirits soar."

I wanted to get inside the feeling of the monks in this holy place and was inspired by the surviving rainbow arch to do multiple parts singing the 'Kyrie Eleison' with different vocal timbres and link that into a rapture type section.

method: dr 01s; voice; vst (bells'n'chimes); the cover image shows part of the 'ultimate distortion engine' consisting of one exciter module, one piezo pickup (pledging for mono today) and one slate plate (it could be any other more or less sonically transducive material, though, including shaped materials like springs, material with other material spread out on top, etc .... which renders this engine ultimately versatile, incl all the processes feasable during amplification, eqing and gainstaging); white tape pedal;  vst (balalaika): more voices and then some; several eqing instruments (including CS-5 compressor pedal)
