Made it as a semi finalist in the 'Song of the Year' competition in 2022 with his song 'Cassius' and a finalist in 2023 with his song 'We'll Go Down'. Tastes like Kung Pao Chicken. Since she is older than 18, I think you can trust her to make her own decisions. That is the main issue.

I don’t have to let her go. But you should :) You do want the best for her but if you make her decisions for her you’re telling her, “you’re bad at this” and that undermines her confidence.

Currently, it is a lose lose situation. In the long term, she has nothing to lose. She has 7 years left before she becomes a 剩女 (leftover woman)。My understanding of Chinese culture isn’t great but I do know that. 7 years is plenty of time. You could just let us try a date or 3. If it works out then it’s great for all parties and a win win. If it doesn’t then you still win and you get to say, “I told you so.” Then, she still has plenty of time left. You don’t know for certain that it isn’t going to work and that she isn’t suitable. The only person that knows her the best is herself. And, likewise for me. It’s all speculation until you try. 

It is good that I have the support of the crowd comprised mostly of foreigners. Since the middle class of their nations is usually more mentally healthier than the middle class of this nation I do value their judgement. This nation is already improving on that with the amount of motivational videos on WeChat increasing. As long as the relationship is founded on mutual respect.

Regarding her EQ, I have seen it work. My father is a STEM major. [On a side note, my hypothesis is that engineer + teacher = singer-songwriter. See Viktor Tsoi and Steven Wilson (father an engineer) and Peter Gabriel (same as Steven Wilson)]. The point is that my father’s EQ did not begin on a very high note.Over the years it has improved greatly and he will now read self help stuff with my mother when before, he had no interest. He is also the more ‘romantic’ one who remembers the anniversaries and buys her roses. It has improved to the point where clients have described him as a 暖男 (warm guy) with an EQ that is extremely high for a STEM major. So it is possible especially if she wants to improve it. At which point you will say, “but your father is smart.” That is coming from a place of not very high confidence. I will reply, “so is your daughter.”

The basics:
1. Not cheating.  She can do this.
2. Replying msgs in a timely fashion. My Chinese American gf in uni took a week on average.  After a year of that I eventually gave up. Uni is where my singer songwriter origin story begins but we haven’t gotten to that yet. She can do this as she seems well adjusted.
3.Not yelling at each other constantly.She seems chill.

I will also add, again, that we don’t criticize our loved ones in public. Public, also refers to situations with family and friends. This is something I learned from my father.

When discussing your daughter’s ex, in front of him:
“I believe that if he was truly forced to do it he could take care of himself.” - me
“I know him. He can’t.”“我了解他。他不会的”

The good news is that she says this in a very neutral, chill tone.
I guess you could interpret this as a form of criticism. It could also be interpreted as her not having enough confidence. These days, I try to put myself in others shoes and if I was in his, I’d still have enough self belief that I could. 
She could have said something a lot worse, like “就他 (pfft him)“ in a condescending tone. OK, the hypocrisy of criticizing her for criticizing someone in public is not lost on me. Last time :)
I am confident that she is capable of not criticizing her loved ones in public. It is also worth noting that he’s taken a gap year cos’ American college life be hard. So maybe he’ll work on those life skills and maybe I was right after all.

So yes, those are my basics with an added pet peeve. It also answers whether or not she can speak. The answer is yes she can.
