Psychic Liberation presents “Friendly CSA Compilations Parts 1 & 2”. A compilation in two parts consisting of artists orbiting the PL canon from around the world in an effort to raise funds for Roots Unbound Friendly CSA.

Roots Unbound (RU) is an abolitionist grassroots organization based in Brooklyn offering nature-based programming centered around food justice, therapeutic horticulture and ecological disinvestment to people in the NYC area with a focus on supporting and uplifting people impacted by the carceral system.

Friendly CSA is a cooperative, agricultural initiative that was mobilized to respond to the food apartheid within New York jails and prisons. Roots Unbound sends care packages of harvested produce that are
chosen by incarcerated folks via a newsletter sent out every month, by growing and collaborating with local New York City land stewards. This CSA is provided at no cost to the recipients, funds raised for this CSA will be used towards packaging, postage, printed materials for newsletters, and a P.O. box.

Confined Space stems from the idea of repurposing audio material from YouTube, in an artistic process that values quantity over quality. Random videos are selected using different key words and their audio is chopped and compressed into the DAW to be used as compositional elements. Often scrolling down to get the uploads with the least views, this process is both a reflection on the enormous quantity of material that can be found online and an invitation to use and repurpose digital content in new artistic ways. What is inside the database is not important, its size already makes for an infinite output of ideas.

Luca Favaro is an Italian musician and composer. Starting as a classical percussionist, he approaches electronic music composition finding his roots in sound design, club music and field recording. With the moniker T.U. he has published with False Industries (Berlin), Hide Productions (Milan, Udine) and World Canvas (Helsinki) as well as scoring music for installations, theatre and ballet. He currently hosts Desktop Music, a monthly show on radio Raheem where he explores sound design and generative music through original compositions. With the dance-focused project Capiuz, Favaro investigates a more rhythmic approach to his compositions, exploring the more experimental and hypnotic sides of dance music. As a programmer, he has created various Max for Live devices published by Hide Productions in an ongoing series.

Cicada is a time manipulation effect that warps and smears audio in real time. The device is divided into two independent sections: SCRMBL creates a cloud like texture by running the incoming sound through a cascade of modulating delays, with the possibility of adding extra pitch shifted layers. WARP imitates the warp feature on Ableton’s clips, with a grain/speed control and the possibility of having it synced and retriggered according to live’s tempo.

Like an apartment building collapsing inwards, no listener is safe from the debris of glass, metal, wood and electricity Shredded Nerve employs. While previous works have focused on blunt repetition, Lakes embraces his sounds' desire to sprawl out and infect each other throughout these five pieces. The opener ("Burning Arrival") brings the same sort of twisted backward violin sound found on the Butthole Surfers' "Creep in the Cellar" but manages to further elucidate this terror with discreet scrapings and the gathering of small objects before lumbering up the stairs, arms full of white hot static interference. The errant crackling through heavy tones and cheap, ringing steel, synthesized warping and vitric ritualistic knocks serve to take us further out of ourselves, looking through a thick window as we slowly age. Shredded Nerve is the primary output of multimedia artist Justin Lakes. Drawing from a palette of found sound, electroacoustic amplification, and analog synthesis, his work is composed through the
use of handmade cassette loops which have come to be known as his signature. Originally based in Cincinnati, Lakes has operated out of Brooklyn since 2014 where he co-founded the record store Thousands of Dead Gods and subsequent tape label Dead Gods. In addition to publishing printed materials of collages and flyers, he also runs the limited edition CDr imprint Small Mercies. Cruel Intentions is Shredded Nerve's 2nd LP, a follow up to 2016's In The Shadow Of What Never Was.

"If you had to live your life over and over again for eternity, how would you live it? What does making choices mean? The contingencies of a life unravel my senses."

Throughout the course of 10 tracks of ‘Wiederkunft Eternal LP‘, the debut album by German producer thirdworldlabour, a digitally cold climate dominates throughout while a specific kind of affectivity is captured in each track. The sound design ranges from emotionally brutal (within) and uncanny (diminished spirits) to blissfully divine (a seamless float to another dome). An emphasis of using chopped vocal samples together with choir-like ambience often creates an ethereal atmosphere which subsequently is shattered by seemingly primitive and at times overtly mechanistic drum programming. Repeatedly Cryogenic synth melodies are paired with unwavering percussion that evoke connotations of fully automated, industrial production processes (many fathers/ancestral transition). Whereas in other parts, steady vocal arpeggios prevail in a textural landscape which seems to dissolve itself into non-physicality (disintegration II).
Reflected in the works title, the album draws upon the concept of the 'Eternal Return' which has its origins in non-western philosophy. The concept relates to the notion of pre-determinism and assumes that time and space are infinite progresses in which the individual is living their life over and over again in a never ending recurrent cycle.
Wiederkunft Eternal examines said concept within the expressive potential of sound and specifically tries to investigate the relationship between hope and despair as central themes in human experience.
