Description: Longtime PL friend and collaborator, LXV (Philadelphia, USA) recently traveled Europe for his first overseas tour in his long and fruitful artistic career. Coinciding with it being the inaugural LXV performance in Berlin, it was also the first PL NIGHT at Volksbühne Roter Salon. This board recording annotates another chapter in the tome of LXV and PL's friendship.

“As a kid I could never fall asleep without my headphones,” reveals Adam Dove aka Nexcyia, speaking to Rob Turner. “I remember falling asleep listening to Jay-Z and Kid Cudi: it became ambient to me.” London based artist Dove aims to create sonic experiences akin to an augmented reality through sound collages, installations and manipulated video work. In his interview in The Wire 461, Dove discusses Afro-surrealism, the sonification of race, his own introduction to ambient music whilst being hospitalised, and more.

Here, Dove shares a brand new mix featuring tracks by several of his musical acquaintances, and others. “This mix was inspired by a quote from the book Invisible Man (1952) by Ralph Ellison,” says Nexcyia over email, “I now can see the darkness of lightness. And I love light. Perhaps you'll think it strange that an invisible man should need light, desire light, love light. But maybe it is exactly because I am invisible. Light confirms my reality, gives birth to my form.”

“I wanted to sonify the idea that the darkness of lightness can confirm presence,” he continues, “some of the tracks by Racine evoke these feelings, as well as, feelings of otherness and loneliness – I wanted to compile tracks that evoke meditative temple-like atmospheres.”

As part if this year's edition of Intonal Festival, we have joined forces with Malmö based Retreat Radio in presenting sets from a myriad of artists from near and far.

Felisha Ledesma, the sound artist and musician explores an emergent lowercase sound,  shimmering with elusive timbres that occupy a unique space – neither electronic nor acoustic, but more a sort of observational sound that radiates tenderness and warmth. 
Processed field recordings sit alongside more traditional instruments utilized in creative ways, as Ledesma expertly moulds microscopic sounds into impenetrable yet intimate sonic worlds. It’s detailed, absorbing music – longform yet somehow also instantly immersive and inviting.

"Florian T M Zeisig’s splendid debut 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘚𝘰 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 was constructed out of 426 tape loops from Enya’s 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒏 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅. Using up to eight pitch-able tape players, the artist cut these loops and reassembled them, crafting captivating sound dialogues whose unforeseen and precise beauty emerges from a sense of curiosity and awe in the layered relationship between fragments. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅, 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒂 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.

For the 5th anniversary of this work, Zeisig revisited the original archive of loops and created an absorbingly introspective second volume with loops that had not been previously used, following the same approach. 𝑨 𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒌𝒆, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒇𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒅.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘚𝘰 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 was largely focused on technique and conceptual elaboration, but 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘚𝘰 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘐𝘐 is not so preoccupied with an overly intellectual quest. 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔, 𝒘𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒅. 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅.

Freeing itself from formal concerns as a guiding principle, the second volume unravels from a deeply emotional impulse towards artistic and personal honesty. While the first volume opened up spaces of unprecedented wonder, the second not only expands these spaces and stretches them out into landscapes: more importantly, it also dares to inhabit them. 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒚 𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔. A liberation from the mandate that artworks need to be “about something,” 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘚𝘰 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘐𝘐 stands as a mirror made of memories, offering a meaningful reflection of the last five years of the artist’s life. a. My name is Andriy Kostyukov, dj, producer and co-curator of Motsion audio-visual collective.
From my perspective, I can introduce myself as a music enthusiast that works in the fields of experimental and bass music.
I'm originally from Kyiv, now based in Prague.

q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. It’s a deep listening story about light, melancholy, wind-blown leaf supported by favored Ukrainian and worldwide experimental communities.
The leaf is bleeping, leaping…

q. what's the best way enjoy your mix?
a. Just stay in one place, try to feel your body, feel your body deeply as the mix gives you the deepest sound characters and tunes, close your mind and just look around your whole life.

q. describe a favorite object in your living room...
a. I love my sofa because it’s the perfect place to take a rest and dig for some music.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. For the last few days I am preparing a new live performance for the upcoming summer season, especially for off-ICKPA concert, which is on the 21st of June in Arkaoda bar (Berlin).
Also writing new tracks, as usual, beloved trip routine.
