In loving memory to RAVE CLUB Cologne 1988-89 ( https://psychothrillcologne.tumblr.com/raveclubcologne ) ... the relevant story here so far: Hip-House, also known a bit clumsy as Rap-House or House-Rap, is a musical genre that mixes basically elements of House Music and HipHop. The style rose to prominence during the late 1980s in Chicago and New York. The "New Style" originated in Chicago and quickly became popular across the U.S. east coast, in the UK and also in Germany (so for example in 1988/89 in Cologne's legendary RAVE CLUB > https://soundcloud.com/claus-bachor/sets/rave-club-cologne-1988-89-the ). For a closer delimitation the two expressions of black American culture, came from quite different places. House's relationship with Disco and HiNRG, closely identified with gay culture and hedonism, seemed superficially concidered in stark discord with Hip-Hop’s emphasis on gritty funk, hetero machismo, and ghetto reportage. But at the end of the 1980s when both genres were riding high and House was hotter than ever, the scenes finally mingled. Rappers wanted some House hype on their albums, and dance producers employed MCs to add some flavour to their tracks. The result was Hip-House, a strong blend of Chicago/NYC style, strictly rhythm beats, funky breaks and party-hyping lyrics that worked remarkably well ...

"To tell the truth: For myself I'm not really satisfied with the quality of my MIX here. It makes a significant difference in the game whether you play in the current daily business comparatively fast House, Techno and contemporaneous Half-Step and Electro or (Detroit) TechnoBass. Or, after years of absence, return to your own story and roots to the lower Electro Oldschool BPM rate for the aforementioned radio show. In the end, that was already a harsh jump into the so-called "cold water", and much of the mix in this mixwerk just runs after one's own claim. Therefore I'll allow myself to re-record this mix soon again in due course and then exchange it here. Nevertheless, the present result is an authentic document regarding OldSchool Electro between 1982 and 1988 in Cologne clubs and elsewhere in the world - when the boundaries between (Street-)Electro, Rap, Hip Hop and Miami Bass were still fluid -, to whose attitude I have been asked by several friends as well as 674.fm. And to which I am standing despite limitations in the mix quality to 100% with its track-content. Thanks for your understanding and SRY for any inconvenience!"

Hardfacts ... U know the score: Back when radio ruled the Motor City and the boombox gave us mixtapes, live broadcasts were the very essence of the Detroit club-music scene. Technology was turning cassettes into CDs and Rebecca Goldberg’s frequent trips to Harmony House fueled her music collection. She poured over the cherished tunes spun on Saturday nights at the State Theatre’s legendary “Club X”. Inspired by Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, the D's Godmother of House Music, who was reigning over the airwaves, it was only a matter of time before Rebecca would satiate her musical appetite as a disc jockey.

Goldberg is now a seasoned radio DJ, having mixed on Detroit public radio station WDET 101.9's Sunday Sessions show, 89.3 WHFR out of Dearborn, as well as many internet radio stations hosted worldwide. She holds down a few residencies for Detroit area dance nights including her monthly SOUND SPACE night featuring underground artists from across the US. She has performed in world renowned venues like Tresor (Berlin) and Silencio (Paris). And she has several self-released music and mutimedia projects as well as multiple vinyl releases on Detroit Underground and has recently released her third vinyl EP on Andy Garcia’s imprint Cryovac Recordings.
