"I wanted this mix to be equally suitable for raving and for a deep-listening session. It represents how i like to play for the dance-floor : angular, twisted, 3-dimensional and sexy. I included a couple of tracks of mine, a few of them are unreleased yet.
Some others by undeniable legends, some by emerging talented producers.
There’s also a track by Gigi FM, with whom I’ll play B2B at Awakenings... Very much looking forward to that weekend.

From his early releases on the legendary german imprint raster-noton, to his more recent output aimed at the club, Kangding Ray managed to trace a singular trajectory, navigating the unexplored territories between experimental and dance music.
Through his consistency as live performer and DJ, and with a number of critically acclaimed releases under his belt, Kangding Ray showed his ability to keep a genuine artistic approach, while slowly crafting an unique universe, equally focused on emotional response and visceral impact. 
Kangding Ray’s music tests boundaries, evolving constantly in its exploration of texture and rhythms, while talking equally to the body and the mind. From his past as architect, Kangding Ray kept a multidisciplinary approach to art, applying his craft in diverse artistic fields  such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations and dance performances.

As a resident of Under Bron since 2012, she has gone on to become one of the most in-demand DJs, renowned for her legendary marathon sets, razor sharp mixing, and powerful, radiant approach to techno.

About the mix Philippa said: 

“I tried to keep a ’festival in nature’ - theme whilst recording this, less peak moments and more groovy, hypnotic and repetitive/trippy, more leaning to what I would play at a closing set.”

Fernando Sanz aka @orbeartist has been steadfastly dedicated to the craft of beats and breaks since he was a young sprout of 14 years in the sun baked southern Spanish port city of Algeciras. Under the imprint Orbe Records, Sanz has cultivated his own thriving techno community as artist and label head. Since 2014 Orbe Records has been lashing the block rocking techno of Sanz’s comrades Eduardo De La Calle and Steve Stoll, but mostly of Sanz’s own prolific moniker, Orbe. As DJ and producer Orbe keeps the mood surreal and dreamy while deploying understated drum machine patterns to hammer the platonic solids that keep his beloved community in tact.

"Sound systems are really what move me." The up-and-coming techno artist talks about the physicality of sound and how psychedelics inform his work in the studio.

What makes a good artist? In this RA Exchange, British DJ and producer Andrew Shobeiri, AKA Rene Wise, reflects on being a relatively new name in the scene and considers the success that ultimately comes with time and experience. "There's never a point where you're done," he says.

While Shobeiri is only a few years into his career, the up-and-comer already knows how to draw a crowd. He has finely tuned a highly kinetic and hypnotic techno sound that's brought him legions of fans and bookings on the world's top club and festival lineups. He divulges the ingredients that go into a Rene Wise set, including sound sources from genres beyond the club, like salsa, Iranian radif and the strange orchestration of Steve Reich. He also talks about his experience with psychedelics—which helped lay the groundwork for some of his most formative musical experiences—as well as how sound systems have changed the way he perceives and composes tracks for the dance floor. With releases on Blueprint, Rekids, and his own imprints—Enemy Records and the American-rooted Abiotic Recordings— Zahn’s output is consistently high-caliber. Behind the decks, from Berghain to basements,  his work is a masterclass in high-impact techno that never sacrifices depth.

From Europe’s southern tip in the Gibraltar-facing port city of Algeciras comes ORBE, the Spanish techno enthusiast whose potent beats have hammered out a pedigree path both as DJ and producer. Prevailing winds carried Fernando Sanz first to Seville to study sound engineering, later to Madrid where the fertile scene allowed him to build a community of music-minded friends that have put that city squarely on the map. Under these conditions, his work (what he terms a means of ‘contacting the future, the avant-garde’) has developed into something much deeper and more sophisticated. His love of artists like Brian Eno and Boards of Canada, and roots in breakbeat and drum and bass have informed a style that’s allowed him to take up the mantle as one of Spain’s most interesting talents. Under his self-titled record label (est. 2014) come his signature killer tunes, and in his work with names like Eduardo de la Calle and labels like Token, Hivern Discs, Axis and Mote Evolver a pole position at the forefront of modern techno. Fresh off his set on the Bassiani floor (14th March) comes this next Bassiani mix. Tensile rhythms that lurch ahead with supernatural power, an involute web of intelligent sounds that attest to his skill as selector. Bassiani Podcast 254 is an hour-long mash up of elfin beats, a vibrating hymn to the sounds of tomorrow, Orbe at the top of his game.

Having made a name for himself through a string of releases for key imprints including MORD, 47 or Hayes Collective, Perfo serves up a masterly executed set spanning the breadth of his adventurous scope and clinical skillset. From faux-tribal polyrhythmic evocations to future-facing hi-tech stunts, through nods to heavy-lidded machine funk and the Detroit sound's trademark blend of rough-hewn firepower and ebullient sensuality. Serious number.

Korpus 9 continues to serve up the finest space techno with a new EP from Robert S. It features four of his fantastic tracks and really takes you on a trip. 

Tornado opens up with deep drums that urge late into the night on frazzled synth lines. It's a real adventure, then 303 Weirdos has a soft acid line lacing up the supple, rubbery drums. Heedy and physical, it's a real hypnotic roller. Ditador then layers up more sci-fi melodic rain which rolls down over the firmly rooted drums. It's one to get the crowd in a trance and take them to the next dimension. Tetris then gets freaky with weird synth patterns looping over and over as rugged drums march below. 

This is an expressive and evocative EP of first class techno.
