Scottish producer 'Bageera' expertly pilots Espai Music's journey into 2014 with 'Life Without Shapes'. Having made waves in the scene and garnered support from the likes of Carl Cox, Bageera's star has been steadily rising ever since his debut EP on the label back in 2011.
A genre-spanning back catalogue from the artist is bolstered further with the Original Mix, a slab of beautiful, melodic house music with one eye firmly on the dancefloor. A funky guitar lick flitters over a bedrock of solid bass pulses and tough percussive elements, while vocal excerpts, strings and piano riffs add emotion and depth to a solid foundation.
Canada's Luke Fair, who himself has released original work for Espai in 2013, dons his remix hat here. The outcome is trademark stuff - solid, deep and groovy house music, showered with melody and emotion. Utilising some of the funk-infused ideas of the original and the prominent piano hook, the mix takes on a life of it's own with a beautiful woodwind sequence and an uplifting bassline.
Rennie Foster vs Rhythm Droid complete the package with an utterly fresh direction. Detroit-infused techy, acid vibes build relentlessly to create a savage re-think of Bageera's brainchild. The breakdown offers brief respite with a burst of melody, juxtaposing what has come before. Rest assured, though, the dancefloor's breather is short as the mix re-engages to a driving conclusion.

Steve Rachmad’s techno project STERAC has for many years been a seminal force in his native Netherlands and beyond. Releasing over 100 releases across the much feted Delsin, Klockworks, Mote-Evolver, Tresor and others, he’s become something of a cult figure, and dubbed a father of Detroit in The Netherlands for added points. It’s hard to imagine a more venerated artist and there’s good reason why, Rachmad’s fearless approach to production puts him a cut above many of his peers, often taking pure feeling and a collection of well worn machines as a starting point and trusting his gut along the path to finished product. For Bassiani Podcast 190, the Dutch master of techno delivers a thorough lesson in expert mixing. From orchestral strings to utilitarian bleeps, Rachmad’s sound bridges a gap no one else can. One thing I’ve learned about vinyl mixing is the importance of embracing imperfection. I feel satisfied with simply blending two records, especially when the transitions come together seamlessly. When I first started learning vinyl mixing, I would book time on the turntables at a record store in Taipei called 有種. It was there that I met many talented DJs and producers who inspired me. I spent countless hours practising, immersing myself in the craft. That’s how my DJ career began..

Now, every home session feels like a step forward. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress!

Vinyl mixing has taught me patience, precision, and the beauty of the imperfect moments. I’d love to share a bit of my journey with you through my home practice. The transitions may not always be flawless, but every mix brings me closer to the art I love. 💞

He is a founding member of key projects in Medellín, including Move, one of Colombia’s most active collectives, and Doce, the country’s only store dedicated exclusively to electronic music in recent years.

With nearly 20 years of experience, Merino has performed at renowned venues worldwide, such as Tresor, Gare, Dommune, Arma17, and Cocoliche.
