Bring Back The Funk exploded on the scene with it’s groovy, funky disco vibes and Emily Malloy’s soulful and sultry vocals. The track was featured in many DJ sets, mixes, radio shows and even made it to Juno Download’s Recommended Funk of the Month. How do you top that? You get some ultra funky Australian remixers to flip the script.

The past few years have seen a flurry of new releases and remixes by Perth based producer Pecoe. He brings his DJ experience to the table and injects a bit more energy into Bring Back The Funk incorporating some great pianos and percussion. He’s not afraid to chop-up Emilys vocals either, teasing us with some choice samples before letting it drop. The end result is smoking hot and will definitely make booty shake!

Omegaman also tapped fellow Sydney DJ and producer Kris Ramea to remix the track, and he delivers a summertime funky house remix. Bring Back The Funk gets the full disco house treatment here, serving those hand in the air pianos riding on rolling bongos and Malloy’s uplifting diva vocals. This one is gonna get you on the dance floor dancing with a call & response section and its multiple epic builds and breakdowns.

Both of these great remixes were handcrafted by DJs themselves, so they kept in mind their fellow selectors. and these tra cks work great in any set. Instrumentals of both remixes are also included.

Closing down Bootti Frutti and the @wautiersound Function 1's after a stacked Saturday lineup was an absolute honour and had me tempted to play something more typical and with more low end but this mix is my way of spreading the joy, the fun and the love we all share in this amazing community.

There's always been a special kind of smoothness with the signature funk of SLYNK, but on his new, ultra-smooth track “Blame” (feat. Q'AILA), Slynk is mining previously unknown depths of smooth.

Like, he's drilled through the hard bed of funk to find an underground river of smoothness, and he's bottled some of the sweet, sweet nectar and brought it back to the surface to quench our considerable aural thirsts.

“Blame” is an insanely silky late-night track that harkens back to the make-out glory of the smoothest 90s R&B. Highlighted by perfectly placed scratches, tickling keyboards and some ultra-cool saxophone, the track is topped off by Q'Aila's smoky, captivating voice. “Blame” lays the groove in a slow, controlled burn and is sure to be on all the end-of-the-night summer playlists.

This edition of LMM is a collaboration between myself and a group of middle school music students, many of whom started playing music only recently, under the direction of their instructor Jason Golday (author of LMM 1.8 - Burning Music). The process was a fairly simple one: Over the last academic year, the students have been writing pieces of music together, using what pitches they know (between five and seven different ones) on the available instruments (drums, glockenspiels, and recorders). Jason recorded these pieces and sent them to me. I manipulated them in various ways, adding voice and a few other sounds, paying close attention to the environmental elements of the recordings I had been given. In some cases, the sound of the space in which these pieces were initially performed is almost as important as the actual musical notes.

It was Jason's idea to attempt this. I have to give him a big thanks for suggesting it. He heard early on the mesmerizing compositions his students were writing, and knew they were worth doing something more with. Once I started working on it, I too realized how strong and unique their musical concepts were. Really, the album was done before I ever got to it. I'm really happy with how it all turned out.

Los Angeles based producer Nick Alvarado and vocalist EVeryman have teamed to form Little Giants, who aim to make proper hip-hop music for your mind, body and soul. Pairing inspired, thought-provoking lyrics set over crisp, funky beats, the sounds of Little Giants harken back to the golden era of hip-hop. This release commemorates the memory of Nick 'Pumpkin' Alvarado, who touched thousands of people with his signature music productions and acclaimed DJ sets at top music festivals and clubs across the US and abroad. He tragically passed away on March 25th 2016, but his generous spirit and magical music will continue to live on. 

To honor his memory, Nick's best friend and Little Giants production partner, Evan 'Everyman' Shafran, started The Little Giant Acorn Foundation for The Arts, a non-profit organization that helps children get started in music or the performing arts who otherwise could not afford to do so. Nick absolutely loved to share his passion for music and performance art with the next generation and nothing gave him more joy. 

By purchasing this LITTLE GIANTS album you are helping to ensure that Nick's spirit continues to shine while ensuring that the next generations of 'little acorns' have the means to pursue their creative passions. It was always a dream of Nick's to have a record label of his own and to help the youth.
