Parallels Pt. 1 & Pt. 2, released earlier this year via Gravitas Music, guided listeners to peer through two sides of the looking glass. Psymbionic’s “Parallels Remixed” aims to expand upon the original, adding further dimension to an already potent selection. The producer’s signature style of multi-genre bass music is accurately reflected by the album’s diverse cast of remixers, and when viewed as a whole, fully demonstrates the dynamic quality of the original LP.

From smooth nu-disco melodies to militant dubstep basslines, the well-rounded compilation showcases a multitude of talent from the likes of Amp Live (of Zion I), ill-esha, VibeSquad, D.V.S*, Zebbler Encanti Experience, Schlang, Of The Trees, The OriGinALz, and Flavours, as well as remix contest winners Jorts and ORBiTE. The sultry “One Thing”, featuring vocalist Cristina Soto, finds itself reimagined most; even after receiving numerous reworkings, each new version of the track continues to demonstrate the original’s depth and versatility. All parts of the Parallels project are available as a pay-what-you-want download, affirming the artist’s dedication to his music.

Even as his career grows in scope, Psymbionic still seeks to advance his understanding of music. His new full length album “Vision” is a prime example of the experimentation that in-depth learning inspires. Each track walks a razor’s edge between the sound he has cultivated and the amorphous world he’s reaching for - a world where songs vary like snowflakes, and aren’t born just to melt away. The release is a trip to the boundaries of cohesiveness, full of key swaps and cinematic flexibility that subtly refracts the borders of modern bass music. Described by the artist as a direct challenge to his own patterns, Psymbionic feels that these are the best original tunes he has ever written. 

“Vision” is out now on the Austin, TX imprint, Gravitas Music, a tasteful and diverse electronic label managed by the man behind Psymbionic himself, John Burcham. Collaborators on the album include several acts with healthy roots in Gravitas: Cloudchord (formerly D.V.S*), Space Jesus, Of The Trees, and the stunning vocalist Cristina Soto.

"Back Of My Mind" represents a set of thoughts and feelings that I know have been swimming around somewhere in my brain. Not every song that I make has some specific emotion attached to it. If I do write for the purpose of catharsis, I generally don't release those ideas. But this tune has been something that I've worked on regularly for almost two years to act as a sort of punching bag to clear out the cobwebs so I can focus on other creative ideas. I've rewritten each section a few times, to the point where the only thing surviving from the original idea is the piano melody. As I worked on it, I felt like there was something worth saving and pursuing about the song musically, so I continued chipping away.
