It had glossy black eyes and a powerful, but blank, stare. It looked straight into my eyes. I could feel the baboon's gaze burn through my skull and wondered in that moment if it was probing my mind deeply, searching for evidence of some reason that I should exist as I am. Then a bright white flash transformed my surroundings into what I can only describe as the surface of an alien planet. I found myself on black volcanic rock, porous and matte, walking up a ways to discover the view of a purple ocean with the soothing sound of strong winds causing it to wave and crash under an orange sky. I turned to find---unsurprisingly---the baboon behind me. My thoughts were racing to make sense of why this happened. I was frightened that I would never make it home to see my fair maiden again, but I was also curious about this new world and my sober and ever-judgmental space-time-bending baboon companion.
