Frictions first visit to Australia way back in 2002. A double headed night with the EZ Rollers also playing alongside MC Jakes. Friction was accompanied by Stamina MC and a great bag of dubs they destroyed The Drum Club. Enjoy.

Double bill with EZ Rollers / MC Jakes alongside DJ Friction and Stamina MC.
First time for the EZ Rollers in Perth. They flew in from London (20+ hours), played til 3am then flew to Adelaide at 6am for a show the next day. Rather amazing performance considering.

EZ Rollers MC Jakes -  Drum Club Perth - Dec 2002 - Part 2

Dj Skynet from the then duo known as Stakka and Skynet touched down in Perth way back in August 2002. This was their first scheduled performance in Australia, and it was a surprise when only Skynet arrived. Citing an illness as the reason for not travelling, it later became apparent that the duo were no more and they would be continuing on as solo artists. 
Initially we were mortified at this news as Perth had waited so long to welcome them to our shores.
Within 10 seconds of the drop of Skynet's first tune, that was all forgotten. This was an incredible night for the tech heads.

Skynet - Drumclub - 2nd Aug 2002

This was recorded at fHz, shortly after the Drumclub closed and was renamed. Evan Killjoy from Concord Dawn hit Perth and delivered a set of the newest dnb around at that time. This was their second visit to Perth.

No stranger to playing in Perth, Dj Bailey dropped this set alongside MC Tali in August 2002. I believe this was his 4th visit. There is no mic recording sadly so you don't get Tali.
Support was from Dj Mosus who is now known as Need For Mirrors.

Bailey - The Globe Perth - 10th Aug 2002

This set has been passed around amongst Perth dnb heads for 20 years.
Grooverider alongside MC Chalis, August 1996. 
An absolutely packed house on a Thursday night with Rider delivering some of the meanest angriest techstep sounds of the period. It's quite remarkable to think of the difference between the darkness of this set versus the jumpup/ragga vibes that so many people were playing in 1996. 
This was classic Grooverider, a window into the future of drum and bass with not so much of a hint of the amen based jungle records that were so dominant just a few months earlier.
Check that Dillinja remix of 808 States 'Azura' 2nd tune in. Brutal.

This Ray Keiths first visit to Perth. 
Recorded at the Drum Club on the 16th of March 2001, I think this was actually the busiest night I'd ever seen in that club. Apparently there was 800 in the room and it usually looked full when there was 400. A classic Perth sweatbox rinse, thanks to MFI.

Ray Keith @ Drum Club - Perth March 2001

Precision was a Drum and Bass weekly that ran at Perth's Hyde Park Hotel on Tuesday nights. It was where the scene would congregate every week and where a lot of local DJ's cut their teeth and learnt how to play.
Originally run by Dave Cutbush, it was hugely popular amongst nightclub industry staff and Perth's Drum and Bass lovers.
Cutbush handed the reigns over to Dj Krank and it wound up in the early part of 2003. At that stage Perth had a Drum and Bass night on pretty much every night of the week and Precision had run its course.

In 2012 a reunion was organised to celebrate the years we spent there. This is a recording of El Hornet and Muller back to back, playing a set of some of the music they played at the original night. Perhaps a little heavier than they would have gone back at the original Tuesday, but some great tunes all the same.

DJ Fuxxy - @ fHz April 2003

I thought I had lost this first part of the EZ Rollers set forever so I am pretty stoked this turned up on a mini disc I found in a box. It's raw and unedited and there was some problems with the sound that night so for a few minutes you just get the mic's and no music. The guy who ran the sound in the Drumclub was being a dick that night, no idea why, it was weird! You can really catch the vibe of the room on this one though.

Kenny Ken and MC Skibadee - Drum Club May 2002 part 2

The Hyde Park Hotel was the venue for a weekly Drum and Bass session known as Precision. It was on every Tuesday night and featured a big rotating roster of local DJ's and served as a central meeting point for the scene for years. It ran from 1998 til 2002 by memory. 
This recording was taken at a reunion night for Precision that happened in 2013 and is 2 of the finest original selecters - General Justice and Jo 19. One for the junglists.

Aphrodite and MC Fearless at the Drumclub in 2001.
Fearless played a DJ set and also MC'd for Aphrodite, and himself.
Half way through his set he played a tune and said on the mic "Who wants a rewind??", then immediately said "MEEEE!" and pulled the tune up.
He had a bag of dubplates of tunes I'd never heard before (or again). I wish I recorded that set.
Aphrodite did his usual thing, lots of trippy jump up.
