When DJ Stereoid travelled Peru back in 2015, he didn't know at all what kind of adventures will wait for him in the farest angels of the selva, in the area of iquitos.
While tripping hard on ayahuasca, he heard this inner voice telling him he needs to leave the jungle and move on in life.
Chased away by tarantulas, poisonous snakes and white people with dreadlocks, DJ Stereoid luckily made it out alive, desperately trying to save the bunch of pure latin heat records he bought in local stores. 
So, the time has come to do a little mix with these dusty records, all from the golden era of latin music. Mostly cumbia but also a tiny bit of salsa, rhumba and a touch of chicha.
This mix is also dedicated to Difraktive, who kindly remembered me of my passion for cumbia by changing my DJ alias to DJ Estereoid.

The church was a peaceful place of rest for many, a soothing chamber within which to reflect and embrace the great beyond. It was the hight priest of Junta's job to enlighten and enthral their senses whilst preparing them for the a world unknown. Such faith they placed within him and his commitment to God. Little did they know of his wicked ways, his misdemeanours and troubled past. It was as if this place was a cloak behind which his villainous passion lay ominously.

Interconnected and brought together by the city of Tokyo, their passion for electronic music and uncontested talent in their crafts, Alex Prat, Isao Kumano, and Kenichi Takagi together form Tokyo Black Star, a synergy of musical dynamism that have since its inception, set to break barriers and stand the test of time. Through their own individual and collective projects, and groundbreaking success in technology by way of Phonon Inc., the trio had spontaneously contributed to season the electronic music climate as we know it today as well as help fortify the oft-overlooked linkage between Eastern and Western cultures. Torture the Artist caught up with Alex in Berlin and Isao & Kenichi, Kumano san and Takagi sun respectively, in Japan amid their busy schedules to talk about the past, present and future of Tokyo Black Star, and inevitably touched upon club culture, some Japanese traditions, parties and music scenes across continents, and even tap into the balance between and interdependence of science and art. Broken District was launched in 2018 by Jus Jam, Momla and Antwan. The label explores alternative styles, blending influences of house, jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul. With seven releases under their belt, this very slick imprint is supported often by the likes of Worldwide FM, XLR8R and Phonica.

On this new offering Broken District brings us ‘90s Anxiety’, a maxi EP by label co-founder Jus Jam, who takes us on a deep exploration into his hazy musical world.  His music is often described as dreamy and contemplative, with sharp beats and smooth bassline, ‘90s Anxiety’ does not disappoint.  Heavily inspired by nineties underground club culture, the EP travels through UK garage to dreamy hip-hop, from early electro to new jack swing. 

On opener ‘Daydream’ and its B-side sister ‘Ryoji’s Dream’, the producer delivers two dreamy compositions crafted with the forward thinking hip-hop head in mind, touching on trap, seinen manga soundtracks and David Lynch’s surreal cinema.  ‘Neopolis Sound’ is a subtle homage to early electro and breakbeat, old sci-fi movies and 90s video games.  ‘Higher Sense’ is a modern and dreamy vision of breaks and jungle with elements of jazz. ‘90s Anxiety’ takes a contemporary angle on new jack swing mixed with elements of house and funk slap bass.  ‘Wide’ goes full on two-step with its steamy atmosphere, syncopated beat and powerful sub.

This collection of tracks is Jus Jam doing what he does best, mixing many forms to create something completely new and visionary.
