' Zozo is a music curator, collector and radio host from Istanbul, known for experimenting at the fringes of dance music. One way or another, she has grown to be one of the most outstanding selector DJs in her country. Following the motto ‘life is hard but music is good’ since an early age, she has a seasoned character and deep understanding of the dynamics of the dancefloor, with which she communicates with empathy. That has kept her busy on the weekends: she has brought her versatile taste to iconic dance floors as Panorama Bar, Contact Tokyo, Primavera Festival, De School, Ankali Prague, Robert Johnson or Salon des Amateurs. She is also a regular in high-rated festivals as Berlin Atonal, Waking Life, Lente Kabinet, Flow Festival, Strange Sounds From Beyond, Dekmantel and its Selectors offshoot.

She's also a part of the Lyon based label & dj crew Macadam Mambo and resident of Berlin institution Sameheads. Also a member of electronic music and art collective ‘Les Belles De Nuit’ founded in Zurich, supporting women and queer artists. Furthermore, her work has been featured on FACT Magazine, Beats In Space, Resident Advisor, Crack Magazine, Carhartt Wip Radio, Groove Magazine, Boiler Room, Dj Mag, Trax Magazine, The Ransom Note, and many more ... 

Zozo is now crowning her interest in music and art by founding a multidisciplinary platform; AFOM (A friend of mine). She aims to bring together her friends, in different fields such as music, art, design and publishing who have been dancing around the same fire and play the game ... '

I’ve been meaning to make another volume of Geography of the Mind, a mix series dedicated to Canadian private press records for a while and I finally had the time to put one together. This time I’ve focused on rock in its many iterations: Francophone prog, barroom jam bands, home town psychedelia, coastal pop, 4-track shoegaze and suburban new wave. These songs span decades and coastlines but converge with a shared sense of independence and emotional resonance.

E2E: Did your move to Melbourne influence the mix? 

A little bit, yes. I have been feeling particularly nostalgic lately and that probably came through in the selections. Last week, I drove from Glebe to Brunswick in a 12 seater bus with my cat Romeo. We listened to this mix together to see how it sounded on the road. Unfortunately, Romeo did not like it and he did not like much that day. 

E2E: Were there any environments or contexts that you had in mind when putting this mix together? 

As the title of your mix series suggests, music can be a wonderful accompaniment to activities. When I have watched a film that has really affected me I’ll often listen to the soundtrack for weeks after and sometimes make my own imaginary soundtrack of songs that fit with the world of the film. While I was reading Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Border Trilogy’, I wanted to find ways to stay in the novel when I wasn’t reading it. The novels are set at the southwest border of the United States and the characters spend a majority of the novels riding on horseback, often alone and usually on a quest to avenge a loss. I found myself preoccupied imagining the sort of music the characters and their horses could be listening to, riding under lonesome skies, contemplating their place in the world. 

I don’t expect that much of your audience owns or has access to a horse. Still, I hope some of them can enjoy these songs on journeys of their own. 

E2E: Any news or projects coming up with Best Effort, Ken Oath Records or Rimbombo?

Nothing is planned on the release front and my bank account implies that maybe it’s time for a bit of a break. Best Effort Dance Parties will continue every few months at Freda’s and I’m looking forward to some summer parties in Sydney with my Rimbombo buds Adi and James at the end of the year.

Where has 2020 gone? 

We are almost out the other side of this insane year, and we at GGHQ hope that you are all safe and sound. The music never stops, and we hope that our friends have all found some solace and enjoyment through the simple acts of listening, discovering & sharing. 

We're super happy to see out 2020 with this, our last mix of the year. We couldn't be in better hands to be honest. Øyvind is a top selector, producer, remixer and he is one of those DJ's who is beyond versatile. He just knows music inside and out and is a formidable talent in the booth... genre and sounds are no barriers to him and his own style is unmatched. A longtime former resident at Oslo's clubbing institution JAEGER, Øyvind held down Wednesday nights there for a decade plus welcoming a host of global DJ luminaries and tastemakers into his zone. 

Here we find Øyvind in a relaxed mood, combing his impressive collection for more spaced out and downtempo grooves, offering a deep selection to soothe and get lost in. We're really pleased to present this lovely mix to you from our friend and someone who we feel is a true talent out there in the vast world of music we all inhabit. Spark one up, and shadow dance with us....

Not so Sorry club is a collective whose aim is to aim is to build a more inclusive rave community, Not Sorry Club is femme-centric, organised with the goal of bringing underrepresented talent to the forefront alongside established artists .
stepping up for the first mix is one of the most bad ass collectors out there and a personal fave . Naledi Chai aka Mama Zeph . Naledi Chai  is a Johannesburg based DJ, multidisciplinary visual artist and researcher and is also one half of The Fly Machine Sessions. She has been a vinyl DJ for well over 7 years and is an avid collector of independent cinema and underground music where she explores a wide selection left field and cross genre sounds on vinyl. She has been running The Fly Machine Sessions alongside DJHotdog Fingarz for 8 years where they have been collecting records and in recent years, Mama Zeph has helped take The Fly machine sessions on a journey across the country tracking down artists, researching and archiving South African music for future research projects. . Mama Zeph has played several events in and around Joburg including the acclaimed “Pussy Party”, “Smoking Dragon” and Low End Theory in 2016 with a long running residency at Kitcheners Carvery Bar in Johannesburg. With an extensive background in independent cinema, Mama Zeph curates her sets meticulously around methods of storytelling that are non-conventional and vastly themed. Mama Zeph has a keen curiosity toward the experimental and psychedelic sound of the 70’s in Africa and around the world, she plays a wide selection of rock, punk, heavy chorale gospel, progressive rock and soul.
