The history of the DJ & producer duo and couple Local Suicide stretches back over a decade to the year 2009. Since meeting, Munich-born Brax Moody and Thessaloniki native Vamparela have collaborated together on various projects, all culminating in the conception of Local Suicide in Berlin. Local Suicide’s distinctive sound, is an energetic fusion of new wave, slow techno, post disco and acid house that they themselves have given the name technodisco, while Beatport declared them as one of the key figures in the uprising dark disco scene.
Their DJ career has carried them to all four corners of the world, whipping crowds into a frenzy at Lollapalooza, Melt!, ADE, Off Sonar, Festival Forte, Berlin Festival and almost every club the German capital has to offer. Their live cuts have been honed to perfection with years of shows alongside the very best in the scene, even being invited by New Order to warm up for their live performance. This hectic schedule has taken them across Europe, Asia, North Africa, South America and the United States. As the faces behind some of the most prolific parties Berlin has to offer, these two were the driving forces of the infamous T.O.F.U (Too Old For Understatement) parties, which are just one of the many marks that they have left on the Berlin underground scene.

Who Made Up The Rules

Patrik Skoog isn‘t only one of the youngest veteran techno and house producers from Sweden, he‘s also one of the most interesting and inspired. Though incredibly versatile, the sustained energy in his sets and productions are equally exceptional.

In the last two years, Agaric established the Club Tracks 10“ series on his label We Are. Besides his own stellar productions, collaborations with close friends Shonky, Waker Bernard, Ed Davenport, and Beaner have also graced the Club Tracks series.

International support came from leading DJs like Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Loco Dice, Ben Klock, Luciano, Joris Voorn, Magda, Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, and Adam Beyer. Above all, his productions were championed by Josh Wink, who went on to sign his upcoming album debut to his Ovum imprint.

After more than 100 vinyl releases, Patrik Skoog can look back at quite a history:
His harder Techno project Headroom on his label Native Diffusion, releases on Synewave, Loop, and many more long forgotten underground labels in the 90s and early 2000s left his first mark for those who know. From 2005 on, he evolved into his deeper Agaric project, with releases on his internationally celebrated We Are label, Adam Beyer‘s Drumcode, Truesoul & Mad Eye, Raum…Musik, Sunset Diskos, Nummer, Kontra Musik Treibstoff and Liebe Detail.

As a technical DJ with a magical sense for momentum and selection, he‘s been playing worldwide for more than 15 years, while his equally as stellar Live sets are one of the few that can rock a crowd throughout its duration. Relocating to Berlin in 2007, he quickly established himself as a celebrated constant inspiration, be it for extended Bar25 after hour sets, or club nights in Watergate, Arena, and Berghain‘s Panoramabar, where he now holds his We Are label nights.

As a continuous journey through Patrik Skoogs inner world and inspiration, his debut album is a mature reflection and expression of an old soul in club music. Snappy tight funk, sub base driven grooves, and shuffling hats create the foundations for spheric sound design and processed vocals, culminating in living and breathing club music.

Carefully crafted and built up, the album spans from classic chicago and detroit inspirations with a driving forceful swedish techno flavor, to warped spooky weirdness and ethereal shoe gazing soundscapes.

Do you know that feeling? It‘s tickling the temporal lobe, creating that sensation, a space where nothing needs to be as it seems, a temporary utopia that provides ultimate freedom, while the beat roots you in the here and now. Agaric is capturing this otherworldly state with this introverted, intimately manifested mind journey. The edge of the rabbit hole is where Agaric makes you move, body and mind.

Agaric‘s mature, yet free floating approach to club music culture promises not only sweaty nights (and days) on the floor, but also peace of mind and revelation for the searching soul.

He's back! Falko Brocksieper, one of the most influential artists on Treibstoff alongside Rene Breitbarth, returns to the label he helped shaping from its very beginnings. And he surprises us with unforeseen playfulness on the three winning tracks comprising this custom-made release. "Wherever You Are" for example sits on both sides of the fence, fusing traditional technofuturism with thrillingly tight sequences that keep on peaking, incessantly propelled forwards by Falko's very own trademark swing. Equally at ease with its roots seems to be "The First Ones", the track where Falko lets the machines sing as if he were the reincarnation of one Bobby Konders.The secret masterpiece however comes with "Nevermind", for which the producer descends to the basement, looking for the deepest sounds he can take hold of. Romantic static meets marvellous chords, sustained by succulent rhythms, but the true moment of hotness arrives with the vocals. These vocals are so divine that even Treibstoff's marketing personnel misses the words to describe them in a suitable manner. Lets's put it like this: it's a must-have, straight from Treibstoff to your heart.

02. Apollo

Niederflur are back on Minus with the TYPO EP, dropping science with a quintet of class A cuts that mark another step on their evolutionary ladder. Starting out in Cologne in 1999, Christopher Bleckmann and Hannes Wenner have gradually developed from the strict musical concept of their early releases to a freer interpretation of modern minimal techno via their contributions to the min2max compilations and the DIN EP. Their live shows have also had a big influence on the final mixes here, with crowd control and response continually cracking hidden codes and revealing golden sections within their music.
The A side track TYPO features a classic melodic sequence from a twisted rave piano/organ hybrid which, as anyone familiar with their previous work knows, signals a big departure. Having almost finished an earlier prototype of the track, Christopher played the defining theme over a looping segment and in a flash of inspiration they decided to go with it, rebuilding the track around the initial breakdown and a raw, driving bass line to devastating effect. ISO is currently their favourite closing track to the live-set and represents an arrangement that’s changed considerably over the course of several live performances. Setting off amid a melee of clattering hi-hats and splintered delays the twists, turns and perfect interplay between the unique sounds that follow never fail to get the crowd jumping.
LED is another favourite featuring one of Niederflur’s most beloved sounds: the sine bass! The whole track is constructed around a deliciously dark bass line that bleeds through the beats and totally fills the room, working in tandem with glassy percussion efx and a sustained ufo chord that gradually turns up the pressure on your eardrums before a slow cascading motif takes centre stage.
AMP and PVC work like opposing magnetic forces. AMP is a dark, claustrophobic tunnel, shrouded in rhythmic waves and metronomic pulses that create a dense atmosphere in contrast with the sharp percussive elements at its heart. PVC on the other hand is quirky, upbeat and full of chattering digital animals that inhabit Niederflur’s subterranean world - a world they first discovered while riding the Cologne U-Bahn listening to the guard’s robotic voice crackling through the speakers amid the creaks, echoes and reverberations of the aging, underground architecture.

Ostalgia is Rhys Fulber’s second album for Sonic Groove following the success of last year’s Your Dystopia, My Utopia. Like its predecessor, it continues his interest in pushing new boundaries in industrial techno, with kicks and bass lines woven together with clinical precision to cause intense speaker pressure, and atmos- pheric synth lines that will dig deep inside your mind. The title and the original socialist realism mural on the cover refer to Ostalgie - a romantic nostalgia for the old but comforting ways of Communist East Germany - and a yearning for rigid systems after progression into the future has led to chaos and uncertainty.

While the music on Ostalgia is at times a reflection of that chaos and uncertainty, it also refers to Rhys further exploring his Germanic ance- stry. And although the sledgehammer beats of 12 Steppes and Fission evo- ke Rhys’ previous work with industrial pioneers Front Line Assembly, he is not simply paying homage to his past musical escapades here. This is forward-looking music, not content with resting on any past ideologies.
