The clock above her station blinks
Half-past dawn in frozen pink
She ties her braid with silver thread
and hums the jingle in her head

The air smells faintly sweet and sharp
of plastic snow and solder sparks
She paints a smile on someone's joy
then checks the time, then paints a toy

There's glitter dust on every breath
and laughter printed on the box
The barcode hums like winter hymns
for places she will never walk

Her friend folds ribbons from the scraps
a red one tied around her wrist
She says, 
"Tonight we'll hang them high
a paper moon, 
our Christmas list."

Spin the wheel
little saint of steel
haloed in heat 
and factory peel
Dreams on the floor

In dreams she walks through aisles of snow
her shoes leave prints that start to glow
Each toy she made now calls her name
in tiny voices soft with blame

"Mama

The manager posts a Christmas quote
on a board of rules and warnings bold
She smiles, then wipes the gold paint dry
her hands now shimmer, red and cold

Outside the trucks hum minor chords
the night is lit by plastic stars
She whispers to the empty dark
"We made your joy - whoever you are"

This was a demo track I put together while beta testing a new Propellerhead software Rack Extension - Little LFO which is described as " a semi-modular oscillator bank". I programed all the patches first and then used them exclusively to put this experimental piece of music together. All sounds are from the Little LFO. I was also beta testing the new Reason 7 software and this is the first track I've made using that software.

I am primarily a visual artist living and working in New Zealand. I also have a passion for music and play classical guitar and african djembe drums and dabble with experimental sounds and music using Reason 6.
