BCCO Mix Series 284: McKenzie

London-based DJ, producer and classically trained musician Vindya is delving into her roots. Deeply drawn to music from a young age, she has continued to study the subject academically, and will soon begin her doctorate, researching ancient ritualistic and religious music from her heritage country: Sri Lanka. Given this background, it is not a surprise that Vindya identifies with a vastly repetitive, percussion-heavy, and hypnotic techno sound. 

She has flourished over the past two years, carving out a space for herself in the energetic, four-to-the-floor, and groove-oriented soundworld.

Her recent set for London’s FLUXO paid homage to her alternative, Dutch-born roots, largely selecting tracks by Amsterdam’s finest producers to forge a relentless and uplifting groove. 

With countless musical endeavours in the pipeline, such as intertwining these early roots, you can expect to hear much more from this eclectic artist.

Bad Robot has been DJing and running her event series and music label SweetSpot (@mara-simge) for two years, and has delevoped a distinct sound, known for relentlessly layered soundscapes, where tribal drums come to meet violent percussions and raw kicks, nature comes to meet the mechanical, and human comes to meet the stress and the occasional relief that arises from these encounters.

For our 97th edition of Pure Echo mixes we present - @niamhingram

UK based DJ, writer and presenter has been active on all fronts. She’s hosting a monthly residency on Subtle Radio. As well as producing and presenting Belta podcast, a concept in which folk from the north introduce listeners to behind-the-scene aspects in the electronic music scene. Niamh is also a Mixmag’s Weekend Editor and freelanced in Pioneer DJ, Beatport, Universal Records and etc. Being as busy as she is, Niamh still finds time for her passion in DJing, as she performs in various venues across the UK and continues to master the craft. 

Unafraid to explore invigorating soundscapes meandering between pulsating, hypnotic techno and more tripped-out affairs, Niamh’s DJ sets embark upon carefully curated trips into the deep. Think catchy loops, driving rhythms and forward-thinking selections. 

This mix channels exactly that. It drifts in and out of dreamy techno cuts, inspired by the dancefloors she has spent recent weeks on. If flow state were embodied in a mix, this would be it.

After a while, Kazak decided to record his podcasts with the interest of showcase what a Quantum Event could give in terms of dynamic and mental techno. 
At some point after some experimentations in the studio and some nights where we slept just a little bit and we were really being perfectionist about the sound we got an Eureka moment. 

Influenced by artists like Pulso, Jonas Kopp, Pfirter, Stanislav Tolkachev, Oisel, Axling, Evod, Dj Nobu and more; Kazak entered Zen mode and gave a well structured set that is always danceable without losing an inner sense of meditation and hypnotic drive.
