Making a stunning label debut, Dutch producer Huminal delivers his two-track ‘Lucid’ EP on Purified Records. Crafting a majestic soundscape, the title track combines melodic and lofty synths with elements of trance and deep house to achieve a radiant and hybrid cut. Moving into ‘Flow’, Huminal devises a dreamy arrangement with undulating synth patterns, rhythmic percussion and delicate keys.

The ‘Lucid’ EP artwork hosts a photograph of corals, captured by Daniel Nicholson. Corals are essential marine invertebrates that form the backbone of coral reefs, supporting biodiversity by offering habitat and protection to marine species. They rely on a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae called zooxanthellae, which provide the energy necessary for coral growth and calcification. However, in Australia, the Crown of Thorns Starfish (Acanthaster planci) is causing severe damage to coral reefs by preying on the coral polyps, leading to widespread coral decline. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (@gbrmarinepark) is actively addressing this threat through science-based strategies, such as targeted starfish culling and coral restoration initiatives, to preserve reef health and resilience. Jellyfish come in a variety of types, from the massive Lion’s Mane jellyfish with tentacles over 100 feet long to the tiny, nearly invisible Irukandji, each with unique adaptations suited to their environment. By studying these diverse species, scientists can learn about efficient swimming mechanics, bio-luminescence, and even advanced healing processes, as jellyfish possess remarkable regenerative abilities. Additionally, some jellyfish, like the Turritopsis dohrnii, exhibit biological immortality, offering insights into aging and cellular regeneration that could have implications for human health research. The ‘Lovers’ EP artwork features a macro shot of Staghorn Coral polyps taken at the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve in San Andrés Island by Juan Mora. A Colombian biologist, UW photographer, and expedition leader, Juan has dedicated his life and work to ocean advocacy. His camera serves as a powerful tool to share his passion and highlight the importance of protecting our planet.
Staghorn coral is built by thousands of tiny polyps - small, anemone-like animals with mouths surrounded by tentacles - that work together to form the foundation of coral reefs. Their survival is essential to ocean health, yet their future depends on effective conservation efforts. Blue Ventures (@_blueventures) is a science-led organization transforming marine conservation by empowering coastal communities to protect their vital ecosystems.
