The ‘Fragments XXVI’ artwork displays a serene photograph of a sea turtle, captured by Daniel Nicholson. Sea turtles, including species like the loggerhead, green, and leatherback, rely on specific beaches to nest, where females return to lay eggs in carefully dug sand nests. Once hatched, baby turtles instinctively move toward the brightest horizon, which would naturally be moonlight reflecting off the ocean. However, artificial light pollution from nearby developments can confuse hatchlings, leading them away from the sea and putting them at risk of dehydration, predation, or even traffic hazards. Protecting nesting sites from light pollution is essential to ensure the survival of these vulnerable hatchlings and maintain healthy sea turtle populations. Known as "The Wall of Sharks," this pass is renowned for the hundreds of grey reef sharks that hunt at night and drift with the current during the day. Nearby, there’s a remarkable coral reef called the Magic Carpet Ride, which houses a vibrant ecosystem now facing the increasing threat of coral bleaching. Despite being relatively free of agricultural runoff, the reef is slowly deteriorating, which underscores a sobering reality: if a place like this is struggling, it highlights a serious global issue we must address.

Los Angeles-based producer Tim Enso returns to Purified Records with his ‘Sonata’ EP - a bold collaboration with INAYA that marks a darker evolution in his sound. The ‘Sonata’ EP artwork features a photograph taken in Bahia Solano by Juan Mora, a Colombian biologist, UW photographer, and expedition leader who has dedicated his life and work to ocean advocacy. His camera serves as a powerful tool to share his passion and highlight the importance of protecting our planet.

During the month of May, thousands of sardines gather in the Pacific Coast delivering this natural wonder. Sardines are small, nutrient-rich fish that are essential to marine ecosystems, serving as a key food source for larger species like whales, seabirds, and predatory fish. They support human nutrition with sustainable, accessible protein, omega-3s, and vital nutrients. Sardines also play a critical role in maintaining ocean health by regulating plankton populations and cycling nutrients. The ‘Fragments XXVII’ artwork features an image of an ocean sunfish, taken by Brooke Pyke. Brooke is an award-winning marine life photographer from Australia, based on Ningaloo Reef in WA. With a background in diving, she now focuses on ocean, travel, and adventure photography, capturing the beauty of the underwater world since 2014.

The mola mola, or ocean sunfish, is the heaviest bony fish in the world and plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy ocean food web by controlling populations of jellyfish, their primary prey. By keeping jellyfish numbers in check, mola molas help protect smaller fish and plankton, which are crucial for the diets of many marine species and the overall balance of ocean ecosystems. Sadly, they fall victim to commercial fishing, plastic pollution, and climate change.
