Making a stunning label debut, Dutch producer Huminal delivers his two-track ‘Lucid’ EP on Purified Records. Crafting a majestic soundscape, the title track combines melodic and lofty synths with elements of trance and deep house to achieve a radiant and hybrid cut. Moving into ‘Flow’, Huminal devises a dreamy arrangement with undulating synth patterns, rhythmic percussion and delicate keys.

The ‘Lucid’ EP artwork hosts a photograph of corals, captured by Daniel Nicholson. Corals are essential marine invertebrates that form the backbone of coral reefs, supporting biodiversity by offering habitat and protection to marine species. They rely on a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae called zooxanthellae, which provide the energy necessary for coral growth and calcification. However, in Australia, the Crown of Thorns Starfish (Acanthaster planci) is causing severe damage to coral reefs by preying on the coral polyps, leading to widespread coral decline. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (@gbrmarinepark) is actively addressing this threat through science-based strategies, such as targeted starfish culling and coral restoration initiatives, to preserve reef health and resilience. The ‘Digital Rain’ artwork shows the River Otta near the town of Lom in Norway, captured after several days of heavy rain by Jan Erik Waider. A fine art photographer based in Hamburg, Germany, Jan is known for capturing abstract landscapes of the northern latitudes. With a focus on water, ice, and intricate natural patterns, his work reveals the beauty hidden in the subtle details of the world around us.

The water, laden with sediments, created striking patterns through the currents. The river’s name likely originates from the Old Norse verb ótta, meaning “to scare” or “to terrify.” Fed by glaciers, the river is known for its strong and fierce flooding, particularly during periods of intense rainfall or glacial melt.

The ‘Sonata’ EP artwork features a photograph taken in Bahia Solano by Juan Mora, a Colombian biologist, UW photographer, and expedition leader who has dedicated his life and work to ocean advocacy. During the month of May, thousands of sardines gather in the Pacific Coast delivering this natural wonder. Sardines are small, nutrient-rich fish that are essential to marine ecosystems, serving as a key food source for larger species like whales, seabirds, and predatory fish. They support human nutrition with sustainable, accessible protein, omega-3s, and vital nutrients. Sardines also play a critical role in maintaining ocean health by regulating plankton populations and cycling nutrients.
