Billenkoek Vol. 1 is the saucy opening chapter of Dutch imprint Booty School — indisputably solidifying the label’s distinctive lush, vibrant, and playful sound.

“Billenkoek” is a Dutch term that can be loosely translated as “asscake,” but a more accurate translation would be “spanking.” In this case, it refers not so much to the punishment, but rather to a playful interpretation of it — the album functioning as a sonic spanking.

About the track:
This is a track I made when I was in a phase of starting lots of minimal FM-bass track ideas, and this was one of the few DNB tracks I tried to set up. It started out as an exercise in call and response, letting the same micro melody be repeated with different instances of synths and samples, but it became a bit more maximalist as I progressed, even having a bit of an emotional ending (which is my favourite part of the track). All in all, it was a bit of a step out of my comfort zone making something I consider ‘straightforward DNB’, which is a rarity for me, but I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s good to do different things sometimes, or maybe even more than sometimes.
