My good friend Geordy Carson booked me to play Live at Fozzy Fest in 2012 as Elite Force. It was a heavy weekend that involved shows in Denver, Philadelphia and in the Kananaskis mountains, two hours outside of Calgary ... not to mention two transatlantic flights and 72-hours of sleep deprivation!

Fozzy Fest was epic. Set in incredible mountain surroundings, it was like a small-scale version of Shambhala, built with love and forged through community. This high-quality recording of the event suddenly materialized through the ether in 2021 ... and it's really not bad at all! 

This was an interesting time for music - this set is a journey through multiple genres and is very much about sustaining a real sense of peak-time energy.

“So, eleven hundred men went into the water. 316 men come out, the sharks took the rest. Saturday, FnF poolside 12:45, 2019. Anyway, we delivered the bomb.” -Quint from Jaws. The sharks swam vigorously, the ravers ignored them, apparently good vibes repel sharks. Dao and PWNY sent their sexy shark house through human and marine cartilage alike. UV rays pounded through the ozone on FnF pool inhabitants and after a taxing Friday night many looked to the soundwaves for healing and invigoration. The music funked and jived through the mid 120 bpms. Floaties spontaneously combusted and the beat carried the party through the + 90° hotness. Some shopped at the clothing swap, some enjoyed massages, everyone heard the duo hold the afternoon. Dao and PWNY have toured the lower 48 for 10 years now, mostly via rideshare and short bus. Their head and booty bobbing beats have become an FnF staple. Whether opening, closing, in the day or at night, everyone eats their green egg breaks and hambone house. They brought the dome over the pool down with their finishing track “baby shark dance.” Hundreds of closeted opears, nannies and dad joke offenders came out of the woodwork with that family friendly heater. As always Dao and PWNY meant business Saturday, as Quint says best “I’m not talkin’ about pleasure boatin’ or daily sailin’, I’m talkin’ about workin’ for a livin’, I’m talking about sharkin’!” ... Raver Tip #80: Apparently good vibes repel sharks.

Dao & Pwny - FnF Poolside 2019

Welcome to my SoundCloud page, how nice of you to stop in! 

I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and feel lucky to be residing in SF in an especially lush and fertile environment for electronic music culture at this moment. Lately I've been mixing deep house, tech house, minimal..... but as always, tracks are whatever I find atmospheric, well produced, and/or have a certain vibe/groove.  When I hear a track for the first time, my jaw hits the floor and I yell "WTF is THIS?!?" ...that's the track I want to play, all of the time! :-D

In 2003 I started playing vinyl with the intention of mixing and DJing.   I switched to CDJs in 2010 -  vowing never to travel to the desert with records again - which was becoming a yearly phenomenon.              
As much as I was loathe to abandon the vinyl format, the realization that vinyl is not environmentally sustainable, that I would be able to collect more music, and support more artists by moving to digital solidified my conviction.  

I always ID tracks on my mixes I post to the best of my ability, and take care to keep notes during any session - whether it's in the bedroom or playing out live - for the purpose of crediting artists and passing on the enjoyment of great music to the listener.  I hope you enjoy some of the music that moves me.   And, please, please support the artists we love by purchasing their tracks!  :)

You will find several tracks repeated in the mixes I post, which is unorthodox. I broadcast a live DJ set most Tuesday mornings ( Brunch With Pwny on www.mixlr.com/pwny ) and gig actively. I have tracks that survive the test of time and when it's the right time to use an older track, I will do so. Most mixes I post now are recordings of the live broadcast or of a gig.
