I just found this one back on an old cdr in my studio and thought I'd share it. It's an unreleased mix of The American Analog Set's "Gone To Earth" off their amazing "Know By Heart" album. I think I produced this about nine (!) years ago. Back then I did three remixes of songs off this album: "The Postman", "We're Computerizing" (both released on the AmAnSet's "Updates EP" and this one which has stayed firmly in the closet until now. AmAnSet singer Kenny would go on to guest on my "Nothing's Lost" album and even played in a Styrofoam live line-up for about five East Coast shows in November 2005. I think the Amanset guys might have found this one a little too dancey and that's why it didn't make the cut alongside the two other remixes. I remember clearly how I got to this remix. I didn't know the band at all back then but I really really loved the record and I emailed their label while it was playing on my turntable and before the first side of the vinyl had finished I had already received a reply from them saying they would love me to remix some songs. The rest is history, as they say.

For its fourth release, Harry Agius aka Midland's Graded label has signed its first new act in the form of Montreal-based Solitary Dancer. With ‘Desire & Apathy’ being instantly familiar to anyone who heard Midland's Essential Mix earlier this year— in which it subsequently proved to be a much asked about inclusion— this eponymously titled release marks the debut of Solitary Dancer, as well as Agius' second time stepping into the role of label A&R following Hubie Davidson's appearance on Graded's ‘Regraded' sub-label last year.

From the opening moments of the EP's title track it is apparent why Aguis welcomed this release to the label, with 'Desire & Apathy' highlighting Solitary Dancer's similarly shared talent for elegant, richly-sculpted sound design and a knack for propulsive club rhythms that eschew rigid 4x4 drum patterns. 'Desire & Apathy' takes a classic electro beat and through the use of elegaic pad washes and swells of sinister bass notes morphs it into persistently engaging shapes. 

The B-side's 'Paradise Found' is a suspenseful coralling of intriguing sonic elements, with its fractured beats combined with a cinematic sense of drama and melancholy that's brought to the fore on the beatless 'Rapture Version' which brings Solitary Dancer's first release to an impressive close.

Having been shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year award, we follow up 'Theory of Flo' with some stellar remixes from friends and associates..

Next up in the series, we've employed the services of our Berlin buddies, Africaine 808 and a long time favourite producer of ours, Mark E; who have each delivered a blinder. Auntie Flo himself tops things off with a brand new version of the album opener primed for the dancefloor.
