Here is a cassette I found of scratch and dialogue ideas for what would be Lesson 6 the following year. Its crude and in real time meaning not edited for the A.D.D. impaired. Have fun with this time capsule as we celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Lesson 6: The Lecture. 

Cut Chemist presents Lesson 6: The Lecture EP. Remastered for 2016 this release includes his Cut's mid-nineties opus in its original form from the original session multi-tracks with all elements intact. The original track itself is sometimes confused for the 1999 major label "watered down" rerelease. Also included is "Lesson 6: Instrumental (DIY Version)" minus the cuts and dialogue plus "Lesson 6: The Sketch" a raw and sometimes crude, unedited 15-minute practice tape that became the blueprint for this monumental lesson. 'Lesson 6' has become a spring board not only for the cut-n-paste style associated with Cut Chemist's approach to production but a feel for Jurassic 5's music as an eclectic and inventive whole.

Not only is this a whole album of 7 new remixes, the album is mixed into itself to create a mega-mix album over 20 minutes in length. Most of the 7 Beastie Boys vocals used are laced with a sound bed of multiple Pink Floyd and Beastie Boys sound bites – not just the one groove as per a traditional remix.

As is now standard with a DJ Bacon Mega-mix, Beastie Floyd will have a proper
12-inch vinyl release later this year.

This not for profit release is strictly promotional and educational in nature.

The release will be dropping on his bandcamp page here – early to mid May
2020.

Turntablism: The art of manipulating the sounds on records to create new music.

In the early 90s Hip Hop DJs often found themselves taking a back seat while rappers had the spotlight, but behind the scenes they continued to push the boundaries. By the mid-90s scratching and beat juggling had been taken to a whole new level, enabling turntablist DJs to take centre stage - because what they were doing was completely mind blowing! The world DMC and ITF championships helped to give turntablism a global platform, so for any up and coming DJ learning to scratch, it was an inspirational time. During that period you could argue turntablism redefined the element of DJing as the corner stone of Hip Hop culture. Around 2002 digital DJ equipment like Traktor and Serato became very popular, and nowadays you rarely see turntablists rocking DJ battle sets on a pair of decks with real records. Thats not to say they can’t tear shit up, it’s just the equipment is different. In terms of the golden era of turntablism though, this mix represents where it’s at. Hope you enjoy. Peace.
