Part 2 of Mark Reeve’s Dice Remix package comes courtesy of 2 of Techno’s biggest names, Glasgow’s own Harvey McKay and the wonder duo of Pig & Dan. Both have turned in excellent interpretations of Mark’s storming original, each lending their own imitable style to the package.

Man of the moment, Harvey McKay steps up first and makes his remix, as ever, all about the rolling grooves. Choppy vocal cuts and solid percussion carve one funked up bassline out as Harvey slowly works in the original vocal sample backed by his own cuts while shard like rides slice through, taking the track up a notch. Subtle builds helps Harvey create tension before firing back into his sub-laden groove. Harvey’s real skill in this remix shines through in the arrangement that always seems to be increasing in pace, keeping the track interesting.

Taking things in a heavier route, the dynamic duo of Pig & Dan drop a blistering remix next. Pulsing low-end kick off their hypnotising remix which is layered nicely with skipping percussion and quick shots form Mark’s original vocal sample. Going into the break they add an almost discordant hook that keeps things eerie and dark. Subtle change in the percussion allows the track to flow as this version keeps proceedings firmly rooted in the dance floor. 

These two heavyweight names are a great addition to the previous instalment of this remix series that sees Dice make a fantastic return to the scene in 2014

Roberto Clementi has firmly cemented himself in the Soma hall of fame. His debut album has been doing the damage as his signature meld of deep, trippy Techno & Electronics washes over the globe he is back with yet more of his top drawer production. Clementi toughens up this time with Lordpole that gently glides between the worlds of Dub & Techno. We are also happy to see a debut on Soma from one half of Edinburgh born techno outfit Forward Strategy Group, Patrick Walker.

Title track Lordpole is a typically chord driven, sub bass monster from Clementi. His perfectly crafted stabs are overlaid with just the perfect amount of reverb and delay to bring them to life, reminiscent of early Chain Reaction dub infectious melody. Roberto keeps the momentum going through pulsing kicks and razor sharp percussion

FSG’s Patrick Walker steps up next with his interpretation of Lorpole and keeps the vibe on the up and up! Clementi’s original is given a proper Techno workout by the Edinburgh native as he produces an all out stomp. The chords become more punishing and the percussion more subtle and a rocking kick drum destroys anything in its path. 

The EP is rounded off in perfect fashion as Roberto drops things down with the Dub Techno excursion of Didier. Tripped out synths and pads melt slowly around the track as pulsing sub bass round off the bottom end keeping a tightly produced deep Techno track in tow. Again, Clementi’s subtle use of percussion gives this a perfect late night or early morning vibe but this track is made by his expert use of effects on the synths. Swathes of reverb and delay produce perfect rhythmic elements in this understated EP closer 

Clementi never ceases to strive for perfection in his productions and balances his love of deep, organic music with more edgy Techno elements perfectly.

Roberto Clementi - Lordpole (Patrick Walker Remix)(Soma 405d)

Glasgow’s own Hans Bouffmyhre returns for his third outing on Soma under his Secluded EP with Proceed. Aimed more at the deeper end of Techno, the young producer keeps things dark and heavy with this alias and is no stranger to top notch Techno releasing a multitude of big room numbers though his own prolific Sleaze label among others. Proceed serves up two more chord driven monsters backed with an incredible Samuel L Session remix.

Secluded’s original version of Proceed gets things moving at an incredible pace as earth shattering drums rock in but almost instantly Secluded shows the deeper side this alias is known for as space like pads bring things back down to earth with rhythmic stabs keeps everything in check. Slowly the build begins in Detroit-esq minimalistic fashion before ride cymbals crash in, taking things up a notch. Proceed retains a solid groove throughout and really opens the EP with intent.

Focus serves up yet more delectable deep Techno with more emphasis on big, powerful chords. An effective DJ tool, Secluded works in slashing percussion to great effect while the distinctive chords keep the track driving through big drops.

Masterful Swedish producer Samuel L Session, who is no stranger to Soma, turns in a suitably big remix on Proceed. Samuel’s unique production style is quick off the mark as big and bouncing low end makes way to looped out, resonating chords that gently sweep their way in allowing subtle percussion the space needed to keep thing flowing rhythmically. Samuel really makes this remix his own with his refined production and delicate builds. 

Another Storming EP form the young Glasgow based producer who looks to be taking his Secluded live show on the road very soon
