Q-Pilled Iowan Doug Jensen speaks to the FBI. He is a January 6th capitol rioter who was seen in a viral video wearing a QAnon t-shirt and chasing a capitol police officer up several flights of stairs. He has since experienced a roller coaster of legal developments due to his inability to stay away from the internet. But thanks to recently released court documents, we now have a more full picture of Jensen’s motivations and activities that day. They included a lengthy interview he conducted with the FBI just two days after the riot, on January 8th. It's an astonishing look at how QAnon seemingly spurred Doug Jensen into action.

We sit with Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz to discuss the absurd accusation that her reporting "doxxed" Raichik, who by the time the article was released had already registered a media company, been interviewed by the New York Post and Fox News, and was taking money from the founder of the Babylon Bee.

Episode 187: Libsoftiktok feat Taylor Lorenz

Americans added their own twist to white slavery narratives around the turn of the century. They placed a greater emphasis on the threat of immigration. The new flow of immigrants from Russia and Eastern Europe made middle class Americans anxious about the changing ethnic character of the country. This growing fear was seized upon by President Teddy Roosevelt’s Immigration Bureau inspector: Marcus Braun. Braun, himself an immigrant from Hungary, traveled the country investigating white slavery. His shocking report was echoed by a congressional investigation. This provided all the pretext necessary for the creation White Slave Traffic Act in 1910. “White slavery” became much more than a narrative. It was law with which the federal government could enforce its version of sexual morality.

After the White Slave Traffic Act passed in 1910, the federal government was ready to start enforcing it with help from the young Bureau of Investigation. The problem is that the gangs of white slavers who snatched innocent girls off the street proved to be more difficult to find than they thought. Instead, the law was used to enforce a moral crusade, punishing citizens who engaged in sexual activity that prosecutors deemed immoral. It was also used by J. Edgar Hoover to target Charlie Chaplin at the beginning of the second red scare.

Trickle Down Episode 5: White Slavery (Part 3) Sample

The 1918 Pandemic was a deadly outbreak of influenza that killed tens of millions globally. It was also forgotten by historians for a generation. 

Medical officers in charge of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I were confident that they could stop all infectious diseases in their tracks. The previous advances in medical science showed them that wartime epidemics could be stopped through sanitary measures. But when the flu pandemic ripped through their ranks, they didn’t know what to do. And the government was too focused on winning the war to offer much help to the civilian population. After the war, authorities were unable to deal with the horrors of the disease in an honest way. They preferred to forget. And so for decades afterwards, the horrors of the 1918 pandemic were erased from the cultural consciousness.

In the early fifties, the United government had to reckon with the escalating nuclear arms race. The cold war meant that ascendant rival superpowers were amassing the tools of apocalypse. Internal committees and think tanks decided that they had to avoid the American people becoming terrified, paralyzed, and panicked about the bomb.

The solution? Make people afraid.

Citizens should fear the bomb. But they shouldn’t lose their heads. Fear is manageable. Panic is not. 

The Federal Civil Defense Administration organized messaging and educational campaigns to show how people could defeat potential nuclear destruction with can do American spirit.  Officials hoped to fine tune nuclear anxiety, so it never lapsed into apathy or terror.
