When the authentic self seeks to create an environment set apart from the all pervasive false reality and narratives of these distorted times, it must do so without foundation or context, upon a tabula rasa, an arte povera, from nothing, and how better than through joyful aimless play with no intention other than to create and exist within the moment, through art and music and dance, away from symbols and language and meaning, away from expectation or reception, a creator with no audience or consumer, for the simple  fun of it. And it must be fun; if working hard and making effort are key to success or gaining respect then neither success or respect are important, one need not pass beyond gatekeepers for something as worthless as approval. There are no bad paintings. Want for nothing other than to know the people sing even if you hate their song. Smile at their terrible dancing, then dance yourself.

SQRIA is like all my other recordings in that it is made live only with small cheap synth boxes (Korg Volca (Sample1, FM1, Modular, Kick), Korg NTS1, Korg SQ1, Bastl Kastle (1.5, Drum and ARP)) - no daw or complex programming - just some forethought/intention and the generation of a suitable playspace - then recording what happens as I move things about. SQRIA is different in that each track is originally hours long and then edited down to something near 20 minutes.

A Huge Thank You to my dear collaborator Frans Beelaard. I had send him this song in my version and it came back like this… :)
He played a bass line, 2 guitars, one lead and one rhythm. Also included is an acoustic drum track with 22" Zildjian ride & crash cymbals & tambourine and an acoustic piano track.
On top of that he also mixed and mastered the whole thing.
A great honor and pleasure for me.

The lines (edited, translated, modified, revised, retranslated, reedited…) originally derived from verse shards by two German poets: 
Stefan George (1868-1933), „Albagal“, 1892 and 
Durs Grünbein (born 1962), “Porzellan: Poem vom Untergang meiner Stadt“, 2006 and „Bericht von der Ermordung des Heliogabal durch seine Leibgarde“, 1999
I glued these verse shards together with a refrain.

During my research on porcelain I came along Kin Tsugi, a Japanese form of art, putting broken porcelain back together again. The picture shows such a piece.
