So, Tommy texted me at 8:13 Friday night to see if I wanted to come up to the city for a day or night or whatever seeing as we hadn't seen each other in seven months or so, at least, and the idea at the time seemed nice but my kids were sick and I just assumed it would be a 'no' from the wife. Plus I was working until 1 a.m. Friday night and had my first Saturday/Sunday off in a while so chances were I'd end up hanging around the house with the fam and doing a bunch of shit around the house that I normally don't get the chance to do. 
By Saturday I had completely forgotten about the presented opportunity until dinner time when I finally brought the idea up to my wife, and to my surprise, she was like, 'yeah, you should go'. 
So I immediately called Tommy who promptly returned my call indicating that, yes, the offer was still on the table, that his wife and kids were away until, like, Tuesday and that I could crash on his couch if necessary. Well, of course it would be necessary. Especially if we were to get steamed to the beams and work on something new. Which was the plan, after all.
So I fought somewhat shitty traffic for two hours until I reached Tommy's place a little after 7 p.m., Saturday. Shortly after arrival we whipped out a pre-rolled Sour Diesel and took the dog for a J walk to get steamed and to discuss how we were to approach our new song. 
We decided it was best to warm up with a few classics, 'Presently', etc., and then find a cool looperman beat to sorta find a groove to roll with over top. Then commence the layering and voila!
By the time we got back to the house, set up and steamed again it was 9 p.m. and we were losing precious time. We wound up selecting the first beat we listened to, the beat that you're hearing now, because I was fucking with this blues riff you hear now and it seemed to sorta work. So we got down to business and after a handful of takes each, this groove was born. By the time we got the groove down and recorded it was time for munchies. So we decided to take a break to order some food. 
One of the benefits of living in the big city is that you can order things like Thai food at 11 p.m. for delivery. So that's just what we did. Oh, and some cookies and chocolate milk.

A trans-Pacific cooperation at it's best. Josh (Entheogenic Psychonaught) asked me if I was interested in working on a project together. I had a basic idea that he transformed with his amazing drum, bass, organ and guitar wizardry into what you can hear. Many thanks to Josh for giving me this opportunity and for all of his time spent on this. 
It's quite amazing what can be achieved through modern technology. I never imagined being able to work with someone on the other side of the world on a music project and that someone other than my family might hear the result (showing my age here).

Hey… so what are Vintage Bone: B-Sides? They are older songs and little ditties that got lost in my growing pile of recordings. This winter, I have been going through my catalog, pulling out a couple songs, here and there, and creating a new pile called Vintage Bone. Most needed some remixing and production adjustments. Some are first take versions of songs I like to re-record often. Ever notice that sometimes first versions seem to be the best, even if a redo is compositionally better? With this song, ‘There You Are’ from 2015, I noticed the vocals were ruined by plosives, hissing and distortion. (Nope, I do not have a pop filter -yet-. Haha.) There was way too much compression and reverb, and I overdid the EQ… all of which seemed to dull the song's natural character, so I made some adjustments and rerecorded the guitar solos. Sure, it’s just GarageBand, so please, cut me some slack. Thanks. Yes, sometimes I’d rather live in my dreams, with all my favorite ice creams. Most of us spend a third of our lives sleeping and dreaming. I dream like an old dog now. The symbolism and metaphors are wildly revealing. The vast dream world, of the places I go, and people I meet, is filled with extraordinary things. Sometimes there are dangerous situations filled with scary moments. I can fly, sometimes I encounter supernatural beings, but often I have recurring dreams where the places and people are familiar to me. Once in April, I dreamt about a mentor I had as a kid, who died. I woke up crying. I did not know he had passed, and thought he was still alive so I sent him a letter. Months passed, and I forgot about it. Then I received a letter from his wife. She was gracious and said she received my letter in the same month that her husband, my mentor, had passed away years ago. She said April’s were always difficult for her, and the letter was a godsend. In the letter, I had mentioned to my mentor how thankful I was that he was a part of my life as a kid. A bright spot as it were. She said no one ever mentioned that to him before, and thanked me many times. It was that dream that convinced me to pay attention to dreams. I have written over a hundred pages of dream experiences, and hopefully one day before I go, hee-hee…. I will write a book about those dreams. But for now, I have some snow shoveling to do.
