The Clouds Will Rain on the Fog

*a mom and son are driving down the road when the son beings to speak*

“You know mom, it’s sad when it rains when the air is foggy.”

“Why is that sweetie?”

“Well, the rainy clouds are the big daddy clouds right?”

“Yeah.” 

“And then the fog is little baby clouds. Way below the rainy clouds. Right?”

Uh huh, yeah, sweetie. But why is that sad?

“Well mom, um, I just think maybe the daddy clouds shouldn’t cry on the little baby clouds. The baby clouds won’t be able to help, the baby clouds get cried on but they can’t touch the daddy clouds. That’s sad. I bet the baby clouds want to help.” 

“Well if you put it that way it does seem sad.”

“And the daddy cloud just keep crying and saying about the boss and being fired. And the daddy cloud talking about the house and no dinner.”

“Um, honey…”

“And mom, the daddy cloud keep dripping rain on the baby cloud and hugging the baby cloud. But the baby cloud is too short to touch the daddy cloud’s face. The baby cloud probably wants to help but is not tall enough to help. So daddy kept crying. That is sad isn’t momma?”

“Did dad tell you something?”

“Dad said that he told me nothing, I mean didn’t didn’t tell me anything, but that is sad isn’t it momma?”

Umm. Yeah, that does sound very sad… what else does the daddy cloud say?

“Well the daddy cloud said he was scared that the momma cloud would blow away, he said he was a failer, fail your, feeler. He said he was one of those. and. and the momma cloud would leave and take the baby cloud. So he kept raining. Isn’t that sad, he kept raining on the baby cloud. It kept raining in my hair and I hugged his leg… and. And momma, the baby cloud started crying too because he couldn’t touch the daddy cloud’s face. He’s not big enough. Isn’t that sad?”
 
*child sniffles a bit and a tear run downs his cheek*

Yeah, that sure is sad sweetie. Just a second, momma has to call daddy. 

*lady steps outside of the car and calls her husband*

*Phone conversation outside of the car:*

“Hey Alex, are you alright honey?”

“Yeah of course dear, that’s a funny thing to ask, of course, I am just fine. I should be home by the time you get home. I got off early, heading home soon.”

“Alex, I hear the washing machine in the background”

“No, no that’s umm, the printer. Kinda loud and…”

“Alex you know I will always love you, and I would never leave you. You know that Alex! Right?”

*Alex goes silent, he doesn’t say anything he just begins to sob.*

“Alex I will be right home in fifteen minutes, Alex I love you. 

Alex tearfully chokes out, “Rose... Rose… thank you…”

*softer this time* “I will be right there Aly, I’ll. be. right. There…

* she hangs up the phone sits in the driver’s seat in silence. She breathes in deeply turns around and hugs her son in the back seat and speaks while holding him tightly.*

“The baby cloud doesn’t need to worry, he doesn’t need to rain. No wind is going to blow the momma cloud away.”

And the cloud rained on the fog and the rain rolled down his hair as he touched his mother’s face.
