A new song for all my fellow SAD GAD's out there, I made this track last week whilst recovering from minor surgery, so was feeling particularly shitty. Contrary to popular belief (the 3 people who have heard it), it is not about romantic love.

This track was written in 2017, in response to the closure of Tasmania's last abortion clinic.
Thankfully, abortions are still legal and available to those who need them in Tasmania. Call Women's Health Tasmania on 1800 675 028 for advice.

Q.E. Releases Haunting Love Letter 'To Tasmania' with New Single

Producer and songwriter Q.E. (Jacky Collyer) unveils 'To Tasmania', a stirring homage to her nipaluna/Hobart home that captures the momentum of a coastal drive, with swirling synthesizers and raw emotional storytelling.

Co-produced and engineered alongside iconic producer Stew Long (Psycroptic, Violent Femmes, Hey Mook and The Raccoons), 'To Tasmania' marks a bold step in Q.E.'s evolution. At its core, the track is driven by Damien Kingston's soaring, luminous guitar work intertwining with Collyer's crystalline synth textures, while Tom Robb (drums) and Hamish Houston (bass) provide a powerful rhythmic foundation that pushes the song forward like a car on an ocean road.

'To Tasmania' is available now on all major streaming platforms.

This song is about moving to nipaluna/Hobart.
It was something my friend Dante once said whilst on shift at the bakery.

This song was recorded on muwinina Country, in what is now known as nipaluna/Hobart. Colonial invasion and warfare deliberately eliminated the muwinina through genocide. In their absence, I acknowledge the palawa as the ongoing custodians of this land. They are the survivors, continuing the culture and stories of their old people and striving for rights and recognition.

As a white settler creating art about finding home and community on this stolen land, I acknowledge the profound contradiction in celebrating my connection to a place that represents such deep loss and ongoing trauma for its First Peoples. The very name "Tasmania" represents a colonial project that has caused and continues to cause deep harm, while Aboriginal people continue to face systemic injustice, including ongoing incarceration, child removal and dispossession.

I acknowledge the incredible determination and resilience of our palawa community, whose culture and identity have been intertwined with this land and sea for millennia. While this song speaks to personal healing found in this place, I recognise that true healing cannot occur without justice, reparations and the return of lands and children to First Nations communities across so called "Australia".

This acknowledgement is offered as part of an ongoing commitment to truth-telling and action towards justice. I acknowledge that we have much to learn from Aboriginal people and pay my deepest respects to Elders past and present and to all Aboriginal people living in and around nipaluna/Hobart today.
