Wright spent most of their teen years immersed in the sounds of house music and this mix oozes exactly that. Their unique perspective on dance music is just the refresher to lift us up. On their favorite track: The track I would like to highlight is the Serge G. 'Work It Out (DJ Holographic Remix)'. Alinka & I released it a few months ago on Twirl and it's a total family affair and a banger! I met Serge quite a few years ago when he was still residing in Stockholm, via an old friend from NYC. He's contributed remixes on Twirl before. He's also featured me in a short film he created "A Child Of House: Shaun J. Wright", that includes some of my closest friends in the world; the eternal Aerea Negrot, Alinka, Jacob Meehan, Madison More and Sir Jacobs. DJ Holographic is one of my dearest friends and having her join the Twirl musical family feels so appropriate. It's always a blessing to collaborate with people you love and admire.

"I think sounds that echo or move like waves across our ears and brains have always resonated across our universe. I'd like to think that this sphere we live on is always in motion and is traveling through our cosmos along with hypnotic vibrations that are still filtering out from the big bang. This mix was recorded live at a  warehouse for iykykhifi here in SLC. The empty room that slowly filled to a dancing crowd was perfect to play tracks with intricate sound design and lots of stereo field goodness. This mix was an attempt to capture the way I would want sounds to wash over me especially when being sent out through some tasty Klipsch speakers,setting the mood for a night of techno. I hope you enjoy!"

After seeing @ShaunJWright play in Panorama Bar a few months ago he sure did leave us surprised. Together with @Aalinkaa he runs an imprint called @twirlchicago and they've been DJing and setting dancefloors on fire all over the world. We were obviously thrilled when Alinka and Shaun J. Wright decided to do a podcast for us. The mix consists of bubbly acid and weird house with that chicago feel, injected by Shaun's hypnotizing vocals. Enjoy the podcast!

Honcho Podcast Series 44 - Shaun J. Wright

Born and raised in west suburban Chicagoland, Shaun J. Wright spent most of his teen years immersed in the sounds of house music. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, house music was a powerful force, permeating the mainstream airwaves of Chicago’s most prominent radio stations. With Wright being raised in the epicenter of house culture during this era, his love for dance music began to expand throughout his high school years as he partook in the underground dance scene now globally known as Juke. 
While in undergrad at Morehouse College in Atlanta, he developed his skills as a dancer in the vogue ballroom scene and professional dance companies.  After acquiring an MA Fashion Curation from the London College of Fashion, Wright enjoyed an active career in fashion in New York City. That is where he met Andrew Butler, founder of Hercules and Love Affair, in 2008, and began a whirlwind collaboration with the ensemble as a vocalist. He spent nearly three years touring with the outfit, performing in major venues & festivals throughout North & South America and Europe. He’s also featured prominently on the ensemble’s lauded sophomore album, “Blue Songs’. 
Returning to Chicago in 2012 to forge his solo career, Wright began to collaborate with respected DJ and producer Alinka. Promptly after beginning their party Twirl in the spring of 2013, Wright & Alinka released their first EP, Twirl Vol. 1, on the celebrated Classic Music Company led by luminaries Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter. They continued to expand upon the brand in late 2014 with their Twirl Records debut release “Journey Into The Deep” EP which included remixes from Kim Ann Foxman and Stereogamous. The label’s output has received much critical acclaim and has been supported by DJ Mag, XLR8R, Mixmag, BBC Radio 1’s Heidi and Annie Mac, and a plethora of notable DJ’s.  
Wright continues to collaborate with other sought after producers including Chrissy, Kiki, System Of Survival, Stereogamous Bell Boys, Bobmo, and Nicholas, and has been released on Freerange, BPitch Control, Honey Soundsystem & Cocktail D’Amore, Discovery, Marble, and 4Lux, respectively.  Wright steadily exhilarates dance floors internationally as a DJ weaving live vocals throughout his sets in locations as far and varied as: Sydney, Berlin (Panorama Bar), London, Auckland, Stockholm, Barcelona, NYC, Los Angeles and his hometown of Chicago (Smart Bar).
