My recent transgressions into my older Volta live shows always make me miss the days when Jon Theodore had them magical VooDoo Witch Doctor moments in the early days of The Mars Volta…he literally still is the best drummer they ever had. No one has been able to convince me otherwise but Zach Hill has came close.  Jon Theodore when I saw him play with Volta in 2005, I distinctly recall saying out loud, “We just saw the closest thing to Led Zeppelin and Santana with Fripp added for good measure. Jon played like John Bonham incarnate and I had multiple people from varying ages agree.
