Wonderwheel Recordings is proud to present a new single from recent signing Tremor, a Buenos Aries based trio that combine rhythms and sounds across South American genre borders with digital vibes and electronic music culture into a sound that has been dubbed “Digital Folklorico” by NPR.  Here on their debut single, “Huella” is a mystical affair rooted in the Andes with soaring vocals from singer Micaela Chaque, pounding drums, dubby synth squelches and deep echoing bass. Remixes come from Mexico City’s Frikstalkers who turn “Huella” into a dancefloor friendly chugging four to the floor dub “steppers” remix, and Folklorico wunderkind Chancha Via Circuto who ups the mysticism of the original with his understaded, nearly ambient refix on the tune. Also included is the instrumental and a bonus cut that will not be on the album, “Tarkas”.

Born in Qala-Qala, Potosi, Bolivia, Luzmila has been singing since the mid 1960’s of her homeland, of the Pachamama, of nature and her people in Quechua, a language thought to be more than 2,000 years old. ZZK Records is proud to announce the long-awaited return of Tremor. Pioneers in mixing Latin American folklore with sound experimentation, the band have been going strong for over a decade, and they’re back with the release of the “Ave Reina Mora” EP: delicate, introspective and psychedelic.

Leo Martinelli, Camilo Carabajal and Gerardo Farez surprise us again with another cut that rejects any kind of formula, exploring an innovative, sophisticated musical universe with highly visual and simulating compositions. There is a playfulness that runs throughout the record, evoking an interstellar lullaby, inspired by the fact that three members of the group had kids almost at the same time during the band’s hiatus. The project’s evolution can be seen in the renewal of a material that is still very much their own sound but one that takes on a new layer of sensitivity, perfectly balancing experimentation with charm.

Once again Andrés Oddone is on the mixing desk while Sebastián Cordovés takes care of the mastering. Leo Martinelli takes the lead vocals on the five songs that make up this release. The cover art is by the talented Gisela Faure, capturing and summing up the theme of the record: a delicate organic and digital collage.

First single “Resplandor”

“Resplandor” is the first single from the EP, a song with a huayno rhythm, with eastern reminiscences in the melody and a hip hop vibe on the bombo legüero drum. The theme of the song is gestation, the underwater environment we travel through before coming into the world. The release comes with a video produced by an artistic collaboration between the band, director Karin Idelson and C.A.D. (Combinado Argentino de Danza), directed by the choreographer Andrea Servera. The song is the result of years of shared projects and videos by the artists that made the video.

‘Ermitaño’ germinated during the two months Michael Alfred Wagner AKA Biomigrant spent at the Fundación Tumac, a community school in Tumaco founded to recover and teach traditional music and dance in the Colombian south pacific. Set to the rhythms of Bunde and Currulao, the EP follows the iconic sound of the Chonta Marimba as it disembarks from its native coasts to navigate new currents, carried along by deep electronic pulses, gusts of wind instruments, and dreamscapes of water and concrete. 

‘La Utopía’ was inspired by a story of the Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano, questioning what role ideals play in our imperfect and complex world. 

‘Ciudad de Agua’ (City of Water) takes flight through the marimba of Jhon ‘Pitufo’ Cortés (from the band Plu con Pla), guided by the words of the legendary musician Gualajo, who describes the origin of the instrument in the sounds of the ocean and jungle, and imagines how the music would change within an urban context. 

‘Ermitaño’ (Hermit) reimagines a traditional ‘bunde’ as a deep, trap-influenced encounter between the voices of Barbacoa-born singer Cristina Cortés and Mike (Biomigrant), contemplating a long, solitary path and rejuvenating moments of collective celebration, culminating in a dubby flute line.

¨El Extravagante¨ is one of these unique characters you find in South America, famous street poet/sommelier, panflute/synthesizer shaman, diplomatic of the Andes and Eastern cultures, guerrilla man of tropical rhytms facing the Canadian ice and snow, an immigrant in the ¨other side of the world¨ he’s an electronic-folk rhythms local hero in Montréal.
After more than 10 years of career as @FelipeNadeau. In 2017 ¨El Extravagante¨ is born along his first EP under @selloregional which was called ¨Patiperro¨ (in the Chilean slang: the one who loves the street and traveling) and had amazing reception worldwide!. With presentations in Chile, France and Canada.
With formal studies in Tourism, Arts&Culture Management, today Felipe lives in Montréal where he is an artist, organizer and activist along with @CosmovisionRecords, spreading the love for the new forms of folklore and electronic music from LatinAmerica and the world.

The Condor calls the Eagle makes reference to the prophecy of ¨The Condor and the Eagle¨. The idea was that my song had a South American Andean style plus my singer Ultra K from her feminine side and talent could represent the Condor, in this case calling the Eagle, which is North America, very masculine and competitive. So with this call we can awake souls and connect to the energy of the Condor, the spiritual and feminine side, creativity and mother Earth.

We started as a group of music producers in Montréal, immigrants from Latin America, Europe and friends from Canada, we wanted to reinterpret the elements of this land, from North America such as: nature, native cultures, artistic forms and others. This woke a great interest from artists from all over the world, thing that finally lead to our compilation ¨Element of These Lands¨, in plural, adding a big tribe of friends from all over the world which today are part of our artistic essence, a multi cultural collective.

Our proposal is to make music that evokes respect and consciousness about nature, which understand our cultural differences as a great value for us. We look to go beyond the act of pushing buttons to create digital music, on the other side, we want to inspire ourselves as a collective and invite to reflect about the elements of our land, elements that sometimes western culture forgets, but through art we can analyze, reinterpret and value.

Our first compilation has cultural influences from: Canada, Mexico, France, Chile, Turkey, Belgium, Colombia, Lebanon, Switzerland, Italy and Argentina. 
We want to thank all the producers evolved in this compilation and our artist Mathieu Bories, visual genius of our collective; also everyone who have believed in us and never forgetting you, the people who download and share these voices which are echoes from the land itself, that through artists sing to us to generate awareness of our roots and the elements of our land.

El Extravagante ft Ultra K - The Condor calls the eagle

Resulta que el árbol del vecino creció tanto en este último tiempo que una mañana desperté y tenía una gran rama metida en la cocina comedor de mi casa.
Se ve que entró durante la noche, por la ventana que está debajo del extractor de aire.

Ni bien la ví me quedé parpadeando sin entender, y antes de que dijera nada ella se meció, y en un lenguaje sin palabras me recitó una poesía de sus hojas, de las mas amarillas.

Fue tan dulce que me conquistó al instante, entonces la invité a desayunar conmigo y aceptó hamacandose en un sí.  

Inclinándose hacia el té de canela y clavo dijo: “ Solo espera a que se enfríe un poco y echalo de a sorbos sobre la tierra que esconde mis pies.” Y así lo hice.
Nos miramos durante un largo rato, y luego de un gesto de corteza comenzamos a hablar.

Fue una charla en silencio, donde hablamos de la importancia de los días de lluvia, que aunque a nosotros los humanos no siempre nos moja, también nos riega.
Coincidimos en que los rayos del sol en la mañana son los mejores, y de lo especial que es la luz en otoño.

Le conté de qué manera nos afectan las estaciones, y se sorprendió al saber que también nosotros estamos bajo la influencia de la luna y sus ciclos. 

Yo me sorprendí de que estuviese al tanto de la vida de todos los demás árboles y plantas del barrio, y de lo bien que guardan sus secretos. También cuando me habló de la rapidez con la que aceptan el dolor de sus pérdidas, no lo podía creer.

Así pasamos la tarde filosofando como buenos amigos, y al llegar la noche dejó que me hamacase sobre ella hasta quedarme dormido.

A la mañana siguiente la rama no estaba mas allí, y al asomarme por la ventana me entristecí al ver que el vecino había podado el árbol por completo. Entonces desesperado le grité al tronco amputado cómo podía ayudarlo, y ya no respondió mas.
Pero en mi desconsuelo miré hacia abajo y ví la respuesta. 

La rama había dejado de sus semillas por todo el piso de mi cocina comedor.
