ANTDADOPE - Let Your Body Go

After two decades in the music business, Miami-based house music producer Mike Locke says, “I believe that all people should aim to be as authentic as possible…and part of being authentic is honoring where you came from and your early influences.” In switching production from his former alias, Shiro Tiger, to his real name, this is his public proclamation of this commitment to authenticity.

As far as Mike Locke’s inspiration for the Tiki Drinks EP, he lived his formative years in Hawaii, and notes that, “everything I soaked up during that time is deeply embedded in my psyche.” The sounds of a luau: the gourd ipu, stone castanets ‘ili ‘ili, the calabash rattles ‘uli ‘uli, pahu drums, native spoken word ‘olelo, and Hawaiian steel guitar, all have a prominent place in this release alongside his own spoken word. He also picked up a guitar for the first time on a house release and added in some spring reverb-soaked surfy seasoning.

The twisted title track on the EP is “Tiki Drinks”, which leads with reversed Hawaiian steel guitar and slinky synths, beckoning the listener to grab their favorite rum drink and get the party started. I mean, who doesn’t like a well-garnished classic Mai Tai or Zombie over crushed ice? “Put some rum in my cup. Let me see what’s up,” entices the vocal hook.

“Tribal Dance” is a dance floor call to action featuring funky basslines, bright and twangy guitars, and layers of ethnically ambiguous tribal percussion. While the focus here is on that Aloha spirit with those olelo one-shots, any positive vibe tribe is welcome here. Whatever your idea of a tribal dance is, do it like nobody’s watching.

“Pele”, short for Pelehonuamea, is widely known in folklore as the Polynesian goddess of volcanoes and the mythic creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Pele is also credited for the volcanic eruptions that destroy towns. As with deities, humans also have the power to create and destroy. Locke says, “This song is a metaphor for the dance in life that we all partake in. The bright stone castanets and ominously wonky synths layered with surfy spy guitars all showcase the duality of human nature. So I say, let me see you dance, Pele”.

As you listen to this release, Locke hopes this release will “transport you to a luau on Red Paradise Island”. If you’re ready to shake up some tiki drinks and do a tribal dance, this is your soundtrack.

We're back with another instance of Dimes. This time around we got a nice selection of tracks from across the globe.

Starting off this fresh assortment we have 22 Weeks. Don't Pretend' combines a hiphoppey vocal with heavy rave stabs and a rolling Tech House beat. Following up we have KERKHOFF, who continues the vibe with 'Too Clean' which weaves a bit of Brazilian Bass into the G-House genre, paradoxically providing a track that makes us pull a dirty face.

Jeff El Jefe brings us the boss vibes with an almost otherworldly tribal cut, that left us mesmerized from the first time we pressed play.

Froex keeps the momentum going with 'Mess' a bouncy, high energy track, which leads us into the last track of this sampler by newcomer Barto. 'Running Back' is a straight to the point, rolling Tech House track and a great way to round this sampler.

Put on your life jackets, and set off on this imaginary cruise where G-Spec and Facunh will dictate the rhythm of the waves and the balance of the ship.

After a long analysis of wanting to innovate a new style, G-SPEC having a very strange style and FACUNH, with a very percussive style, they decided to go beyond what they can do, merging both styles, opening their creativity where you can mentally navigate to Imagine Island. This is how the track from the other world called ''NAVEGANDO'' was born.

When G-SPEC and FACUNH realized that they could already control the fusion of their styles, they looked for a way to enter their minds and make them dance, DANCE TO THE BEAT of the music. Their styles were so strong that they broke the barrier of imagination, creating the track ''DANCE TO BEAT'' with a vocal that tells you to dance to the beat of the music.

Após uma longa análise de querer inovar um novo estilo, o G-SPEC com um estilo muito estranho e o FACUNH, com um estilo muito percussivo, decidiram ir além do que podem fazer, fundindo os dois estilos, abrindo sua criatividade onde você pode mentalmente navegar até Imagine Island. Assim nasceu a musica de outro mundo chamada ''NAVIGANDO''.

Quando G-SPEC e FACUNH perceberam que já podiam controlar a fusão de seus estilos, procuraram uma forma de entrar em suas mentes e fazê-los dançar. Seus estilos eram tão fortes que quebraram a barreira da imaginação, criando a faixa ''DANCE TO BEAT'' com um vocal que manda dançar ao ritmo da música.

Having recently reached Beatport number one with ‘Urban Shaker’, Manchester-based DJ/producer Sam Curran readies three new productions for Jamie Jones’ renowned Hottrax this April. Gaining previous support from Jamie Jones, Sidney Charles, and Franky Rizardo, Curran is back with another bass-heavy production that ensures an impressive return to the label.

The title cut ‘Twilight On The Terrace’ brings rolling low end and playful vocal interjections that create a rousing club track, while the bumping ‘Eric’s Rumble’ showcases a reverberating bassline in true Hottrax style, paired with dizzying drops and wonky stabs. Closing out the EP ‘NRG’ harnesses crisp hats, snaking bass grooves, and moody, infectious samples to journey deep into late-night territories.

Welcome to Summer with Artichokes Are Yellow. We got a diverse selection this sampler season and we are stoked to have Jahir, Left Ear Right, and Kasto on our roster for the first time as well as welcoming back the amazing Moonlight Fiziks!

First up we have a 'hot human summer' anthem with Fantasy by Moonlight Fiziks and Kasto. It is a high-energy, heavy-hitting banger with a catchy whisper vocal and a moovin'/groovin' bassline. This track is setlist 'must-have' being as catchy and memorable as it is, it will set the dancefloor on fire!

Up next we have Jupiter by us, your label grandparents.
'Addressing all of the abortion laws being passed currently, people assigned female at birth are fearing for their health and lives. There are many reasons to not want to have a child, some health, some financial and one simply being 'I don't want to', and that is perfectly valid and okay. The song talks about all the reasons to not want to have a kid in a world that just can't take care of them. Written from the perspective of 'If Jupiter was a real person', these are the things I would fear for her life.' ~Anna

Welcoming Jahir to Artichokes Are Yellow with a Hot Cheese Summer Anthem. Be sure to slather your nachos while playing this heater of a track to keep your nachos warm while you're eating them. I don't like cold nachos, that's for sure. *Listens to the song again* 'UHHHH Yeah I would slather my nachos to this'. Jahir blessed our earholes with their bouncy growling baseline and high-energy vocal chops that keep the track moving all the way through.

Last but not least we have Sweaty People by Left Ear Right. This track gets right to the point. It is so hot you will be sweating through your clothes upon impact. This track is bound to fill up a dancefloor with its bouncy baseline and spicy ear candy that makes the song unique and fresh. The vocal is catchy in tone and texture with the instrumental of the song, it hits your ears just right.
