Instantly hooked since discovering the world of Dubstep and Grime in 2007, Quakes (formerly DJ Backcar) has been energised by the ground-shaking sounds of UK Bass for the majority of his life. With 9 years’ experience as a classically-trained percussionist/drummer and 10 years of bush doofing and weekly warehouse raves under his belt, he is a staple member of Sydney's underground music scene.

Quakes has been organising and performing at Aussie bush doofs, warehouse raves, outdoor parties and the occasional club event since 2017. He is a key member of Gennyada, Sydney/Eora-based underground multi-genre rave crew born from DIY generator-powered outdoor events. You can also find him on the 1s and 2s with Soul Shack. Quakes made his international debut alongside DUNJ crew in New Zealand in 2024. 

His sound is percussive and deeply atmospheric, built off minimal broken beat drum patterns that leave space to emphasise the intensity and bassweight in sub-bass frequency basslines. Quakes takes influence from his percussive upbringing, dancefloor experiences overseas (notably Outlook Festival in Croatia), South Asian background and firm footholds in various underground subcultures. His deep-rooted love for 140BPM styles sees him mix the full spectrum of UK Bass genres and beyond, guaranteed to make the floor shake.
