Transfecting the Has2 gene from the naked mole rat to humans may make us immune from cancer.

The secret to immunity from cancer may lie in its genetics.

The naked mole rat (Heterocephalus glaber) makes the hyaluronan synthase 2 (Has2) protein that synthesizes high molecular mass hyaluronan  (hyaluronic acid) aka HMM-HA, which is not found in humans.

This species is highly resilient and practically immune to cancer and is almost never found in the wild with it. 

Scientists believe it is because they produce this very high molecular mass hyaluron (aka hyaluronic acid), which is responsible for their elastic, stretchy skin and prevents cells from being too close and clumping together.
