I have always wanted to mix the iconic Black Ivory track “Mainline”, but the tapes were never found so I suggested to DJ Spen that we cover the song. I also wanted to be sure get the blessing of my good friend and legendLeroy Burgess. Not only did he love what I was doing with the track,he graced me with playing a solo and great boogie parts.This record was made using real musicians, no loops or samples were used.We’ve featured great drumming byJamiroquai drummer Derrick McKenzie, driving bass playingbyJKriv, amazing keyboard work byGary Hudgins, and impeccable vocals byTasha LaRae and Ed Ramsey. A lot of love has gone into making this cover and I’m very happy with how it turned out. I am grateful to know, and call friends, so many talented people and I thank you all for being part of this record.Special thanks to my good friend and Spencer Morales partnerDJ Spen who has always supported me and all my musical visions at Quantize. Dave Lee has reworked his much-loved catalogue classic from the bottom up, featuring all new keys & overhauled drums, plus a slamming slap bass line that nods heavily to the source material and injects a serious dose of funk to the proceedings. When you want something done right, sometimes it’s best to do it yourself and that’s exactly what Dave has done here.
