Sean McCabe & Mr. V – It Can Be

It could be on the East, it could be on the West; it could be in Europe, or it could be in Asia. Today, house music is a global phenomenon that has connected with all different kinds of people from different backgrounds, bringing so many shades of music into one form of expression.

With spoken words performed by Mr. V, “It Can Be” encapsulates what it is that defines house music in current times. Riding over McCabe’s trademark dubby sound, Sean takes each mix in slightly different directions with the deeper atmospheric East Mix or the classic hard-kick swinging West Mix. Whichever way you go, both mixes are designed with the sole purpose of getting bodies moving.

Growing up in the 1980's in New York City, the open-minded Mr. V was heavily influenced by House, Hip-Hop, Latin, Garage and Disco classics, Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. As a result his sound is like taking a trip back in time to dance music's golden age.

In his own words, “it didn't matter what race or sexual orientation you came from because dance music was all about embracing our differences and creating a homogeneous vibe. The music was built heavily on lots of heart and soul. DJs played whatever it took to get the party going and the music was never predictable.”

It is with this classic spirit and enthusiasm that Mr. V targets today's dance music world.

The Blak Beatniks - The Right Place

Since the dawn of the 1990s, Windy City collective The Blak Beatniks has been representing the more soulful side of the Chicago house spectrum. Now the Big Ed-fronted outfit is making its first appearance on Good Vibrations Music via the smiling musical positivity of 'The Right Place'.

Over the last three decades, Harold 'Big Ed' Matthews and his Blak Beatniks collective have released celebrated singles on a wide variety of notable record labels, including Large Music, Clubhouse Records, PAN, Vibe Music and his own Melodious Recordings imprint.

'The Right Place' sees the long-serving songwriter, vocalist and producer hook up with producer Sean McCabe, who first worked with Big Ed on the 2007 BBN single, 'Free To Be Free'. The Transatlantic duo have collaborated on numerous occasions since, with Big Ed appearing a number of times on McCabe's Z Records-released 2014 debut album 'It's Time'.

In its' 'Main Vocal Mix' form, 'The Right Place' is a wonderfully breezy and rolling chunk of soulful house. The lead singer Tori Blak, provides a sumptuous rendition of Big Ed's positive, life-affirming lyrics over a backing track rich in addictive electric piano riffs and chunky, New Jersey-influenced drums.

McCabe emphasizes his own warm, analogue-sounding synth bassline on the accompanying Deepa Vocal, adding dreamy pads and a shuffling drum track that offers subtle nods towards Latin rhythms whilst sustaining the four-to-the-floor bump of classic house. There's also a seductive, slowly building Deepa Reprise version and a chunky, spacey and groovy revision from Mathews and McCabe under their alternative aliases. One of the highlights of a strong package, the Aitch Em & Mackabee Dub sounds like it was tailor made for early morning dancefloors.

The expansive package also includes alternate instrumental versions of each of the mixes. It all adds up to a particularly memorable outing from one of Chicago house's most distinctive musical voices.
