Deduction Style

My submission for the Beatkings Syndicate flip competition. Thanks to the guys for having me take part!

Initially I wanted to strip the Vivaldi piece to bits and use it for every sound in my submission, but it was lacking in many ways when I went down that route. A quick change of tactic and I just chopped a few awesome bits out here and there.

I used a 707 kit for the drums, Ableton Operator for the main bassline, which I then sent the MIDI to a friend of mine (Howard Bartley, who is not on social media) to rag through his modular rig to create a noisy atrocity. I tamed the resulting audio with EQ, and modulated that to come in and out at key points, with some added filter delay.

I used stabs of Vivaldi on the offbeat for drama in what you might call the "verse" sections, and took other sections to loop for melody and progression.

And finally, I took Howard's suggestion to add some trashy noisy percussion here and there for thickening out the final sound.

Mixed everything, then ran through a quick mastering chain. Made a wanky social media video in Canva with a visualiser sticker because I couldn't figure out how to add an actual visualiser that moved with the music.
